Position:                     Coordinator, Ministry of Loss and Healing

Department:                Office of Family Life Ministry

Reports To:                  Director of Family Life Ministries

Classification:              Non-Exempt

General Description

This position develops, facilitates and manages programming in support of and in service to the human family in all stages of their development.  Including but not limited to bereavement, divorced and separated, mental health, addiction, and a variety of counseling opportunities, all of which are rooted in the Catholic tradition.

Specific Duties/Responsibilities

The following specific responsibilities are representative of the duties required in this position. They may be unilaterally but reasonably changed based on the working environment and departmental needs.

• Develop and facilitate support programs for bereavement for use in parish settings.  Provide facilitator training for such programs.
• Develop and facilitate support programs for mental health ministry for use in parish settings.  Provide facilitator training for such programs.
• Develop support programs for divorced and separated Catholics for use in parish settings.  Provide facilitator training for such programs.
• Develop and facilitate support programs for addiction ministry for use in parish settings.  Provide facilitator training for such programs.
• Develop support programs for child loss (from prenatal to adult) for use in parish settings.  Provide facilitator training for such programs.
• Assist with healing initiatives in collaboration with other archdiocesan offices as applicable.
• Research, enrich and expand materials and training for support group programs.
• Maintain and coordinate a listing of all relevant programs and parish support groups.
• Vet local Catholic counseling services for referrals.
• Provide resource materials to parishes in support of all programming available through the Office of Family Life.
• Cultivate and maintain good working relationships with parishes in the Archdiocese.
• Maintain and respect employee/client confidentiality.
• Assist with ongoing Office of Family Life initiatives.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Skills

• Must be a practicing Catholic
• Internet, social media and computer skills proficiency, including but not limited to MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Desktop publishing
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Group facilitation skills
• Availability for evening and weekend work when required
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) capability is an asset
• Proficiency with remote tools including video conferencing
• Experience in handling individual and family crisis situations and familiarity with proper related procedures (reporting, referrals, etc.) 

Education and/or Experience (Preferred)

• Bachelor’s degree in social services (e.g. social work, pastoral ministry, psychology, education, etc.) required
• Master’s Degree in related field desirable
• Recognized certified training in related field as necessary
• Familiarity with a variety of bereavement, mental health, addiction, and divorced/separated programs
• Practical/theoretical background in loss and transition following major life events
• Experience in support group facilitation 
• Familiarity with hospice/palliative care
