ASSISTANTCONTROLLER (Permanent)
Our client, a local, family-owned construction company inWNY, is looking to hire an Assistant Controller to join their team. Thisperson will work closely with the Corporate Controller to manage the day-to-dayaccounting functions and strengthen the finance team for the future.


Responsibilities:

  • Supervise andactively participate in day-to-day accounting activities, including accountspayable, accounts receivable, project billings, cash applications, and othertransactional processes
  • Participate in monthlyclose processes, ensuring all deadlines, account reconciliations, supportingschedules, and reporting deliverables are completed accurately and on schedule
  • Prepare andreview monthly journal entries, including accruals, intercompany transactions,depreciation, amortization, prepaid expenses, and other recurring accountingactivities
  • Maintain accurateproject accounting records, including contract status, job costs, billings, andproject-related financial data
  • Collaborate withProject Managers to analyze job performance, monitor costs, and ensure properrevenue and expense recognition
  • Prepare monthlycustomer billings, including AIA billing packages, lien waivers, and supportingcontract documentation
  • Build acomprehensive understanding of project financial performance, includingcost-to-complete estimates, labor productivity, equipment utilization, contractcompliance, and profitability metrics
  • Monitor projectfinancial trends and proactively identify cost overruns, margin fluctuations,billing discrepancies, and other accounting risks requiring managementattention
  • Participate inthe preparation of annual budgets, financial forecasts, variance analyses, andmanagement reporting packages
  • Compile monthlyfinancial statements and provide detailed account analyses and supportingschedules to facilitate management decision-making
  • Manage daily cashreporting and forecasting activities to provide leadership with clearvisibility into liquidity, working capital, and cash requirements
  • Support externalaudit engagements by preparing schedules, coordinating requested documentation,and ensuring timely responses to auditor inquiries
  • Lead and mentoraccounting personnel, developing skills and talent to improve team strengths
  • Identify andprepare junior team members for expanded responsibilities and future leadershiproles
  • Delivermeaningful financial insights and recommendations that support informeddecision-making across finance, operations, and project management teams
  • Assess existingaccounting procedures and implement practical improvements that enhanceefficiency, accuracy, compliance, and internal controls
  • Strengthenprocess documentation, standard operating procedures, and cross-traininginitiatives to ensure continuity and minimize key-person dependencies
  • Utilize advancedExcel capabilities to automate reporting, improve reconciliations, and enhancefinancial analysis
  • Support theongoing evolution of accounting processes, reporting capabilities, and systemenhancements as the organization continues to grow
  • Work well both independently and ina team environment
  • Other duties as assigned/as necessary


Details:

  • Position is full-time, direct hire
  • 100% in-office
  • $100,000 - $115,000 annually depending on experience plus bonus (based on company’s performance)
  • 5+ years’ Accounting experience in a construction setting
  • AIA experience required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related
  • Experience withComputerEase, Textura, ERP systems, and construction accounting softwarepreferred
  • Proficient inExcel
  • Strong organization skills and time management skills
  • Strong attention to detail & accuracy
  • Self-motivated, but collaborative and team oriented
  • Relocation not available
