Purpose of Position:

Perform cleaning in clinical areas as assigned to maintain the facility in a disinfected condition as required.  This position is key to enhancing patient care and employee health, accordingly all duties should be conducted in accordance with infection control policies and procedures for best practices.

Essential Functions:

  • Wash and clean surface areas assigned according to established specialized cleaning procedures using the proper products for waxing, stripping, shampooing, vacuuming, sweeping, damp wiping, etc. in clinical areas of the hospital
  • Empty trash, sort and dispose of contaminated and non-contaminated trash according to established procedures and infection control guidelines
  • Perform terminal cleans in patient rooms using the proper protocols and safety precautions including birthing rooms and nursery  
  • Using the proper checklists, clean outpatient areas, emergency room and other clinical areas (dental, lab, pharmacy, allied health departments, etc.) following the proper protocols and infection control guidelines  
  • Check all equipment prior to the start of each shift for any malfunctions, notifying supervisor and filling out a work request as required
  • Clean equipment after each shift according to manufacturers' and department specifications, ensuring equipment is ready to use by the oncoming shift and replenish daily supplies
  • Display a “wet floor” or applicable safety warning signs whenever water, slippery material or obstruction is present on the floor
  • Perform other duties as assigned
