As our High School History Teacher, you will be responsible for developing and delivering engaging history and social studies instruction for our residents. The residents at The Barry Robinson Center are military-connected youth working through mental and behavioral health diagnoses. Our residents typically stay with us for six to nine months, so we provide year-round instruction to ensure continuity in their education. Our small class sizes—typically 6 to 8 students—and dedicated Teacher Assistants allow you to build meaningful relationships and provide individualized support. As a member of our Education team, everyone plays an important role in meeting each student's academic, behavioral, social, and emotional needs. In addition to helping students understand history, government, geography, and civics while strengthening their critical thinking skills, we believe the best educators embody our core values of competence, kindness, and fun. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field required Must be eligible for Virginia State Teaching Licensure with an endorsement in History and Social Science or another applicable academic area Ability to work on-site in our Education Building Previous experience working with adolescents and youth with emotional, behavioral, or developmental disabilities preferred Responsibilities Utilize informal and formal assessment measures upon student entry into the program, including teacher observations, surveys, standardized assessments, and review of previous school records Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with Virginia Standards of Learning and licensing requirements using instructional strategies such as one-on-one instruction, small groups, classroom discussion, projects, quizzes, tests, and assignments Teach and assess history and social studies content, including U.S. History, World History, Government, Civics, Geography, and related topics Foster critical thinking by encouraging students to analyze historical events, evaluate multiple perspectives, and make connections between the past and present Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic, emotional, and behavioral needs of students Maintain accurate documentation of student grades, attendance, progress, and behavioral observations Benefits Full benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance 403(b) retirement plan with company contribution Company-paid life and long-term disability insurance Paid sick leave Tuition reimbursement: $3,000 per calendar year after 6 months of employment $5,000 per calendar year after 2 years of employment Employee events and activities Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Annual performance reviews Opportunities for advancement And more!
