Job Description

Amentum is actively seeking a Naval Architect/Structural Engineer with three or more years of experience to work onsite in Code 241/242 at Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center (MARMC) in Norfolk, VA.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical assistance, assessment, and corrective actions as tasked.

  • Conduct inspections and/or assessments of current ship condition and evaluate the findings of the inspections and/or assessments to determine a way forward to correct the current situation.

  • Answer Engineering Service Requests (ESR) and Departures from Specification (Client) when applicable.

  • Must be able to complete certification courses within 8 months after hire pertaining to Corrosion assessment including: NAVSEA Basic Paint Inspector, NACE level 1, NACE level 2, NAVSEA Cableway Inspections, Shipboard Corrosion Assessment Training, etc.


Required Education, Skills, and Experience:

  • BS in Structural Engineering or Naval Architecture from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) school.  Mechanical Engineering degree will be accepted if there is a background in structural analysis or naval architecture.

  • Experience in the assessment, repair, and maintenance of structure on US Naval ships. Minimum of three (3) years specialized hands-on experience working and inspecting ship structures, material, knowledge of welding and preservation of systems.

  • Must have three (3) years general experience performing structural analysis and load requirements to comply with Navy standards.

  • Specialized and General experience can be concurrent but must be recent within three (3) years.

  • Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.  If individual does not have clearance yet, during the hiring process, they must attain INTERIM Secret by DAY ONE.

  • May require less than 10% travel.


Physical Demands and Expectations:

  • Regular physical activity to include walking, climbing stairs, and standing; frequent periods of prolonged sitting may be required.

  • Maneuvering and climbing ladders in tight spaces in a shipboard environment

  • Ability to speak, read, hear, and write, English with or without assistance.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Naval Architect with shipyard background.

       

Compensation Details:

$80,000 - $89,700
