Job Summary

The Substitute Teacher is responsible for providing instructional continuity and maintaining a positive learning environment in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. The Substitute Teacher supports the academic, social, and spiritual development of students while upholding the mission, values, and policies of St. Ann Catholic School.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implement lesson plans and instructional activities provided by the regular classroom teacher.
  • Maintain a safe, orderly, and productive classroom environment.
  • Supervise students in the classroom, hallways, cafeteria, playground, and other designated areas as assigned.
  • Encourage student engagement and participation in learning activities.
  • Manage classroom behavior in accordance with school policies and expectations.
  • Take attendance and maintain accurate records as required.
  • Communicate important information regarding classroom activities, student behavior, and completed assignments to the regular teacher.
  • Follow all school safety, emergency, and confidentiality procedures.
  • Support and model Catholic values and Christian behavior in interactions with students and staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or school administration.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Prior experience working with children or in an educational setting preferred.
  • Ability to follow lesson plans and classroom procedures effectively.
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to different grade levels and instructional settings.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Willingness to support the mission and values of Catholic education.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to supervise and engage students in a positive manner.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
  • Dependable, flexible, and organized.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with school staff and administrators.
