Job Summary
The Substitute Teacher provides classroom instruction and supervision in the absence of the regular teacher. In a Catholic school setting, the substitute supports the academic program while modeling Christian values, maintaining classroom structure, and contributing to a respectful, faith-filled learning environment.
Job Responsibilities
- Follow lesson plans and instructions provided by the regular teacher
- Deliver instruction across various subjects and grade levels (typically K–8 or high school, depending on assignment)
- Maintain classroom order and enforce school rules and policies
- Ensure a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment
- Take attendance and manage daily classroom routines
- Adapt to different classrooms, subjects, and grade levels as needed
- Communicate relevant information about student behavior or progress to school staff
- Supervise students during class, transitions, lunch, recess, or dismissal as assigned
- Respect and support the Catholic identity and mission of the school, including participation in prayer or religious activities when appropriate
Job Requirements
- Valid substitute teaching license/permit (as required by state/diocese)
- Experience working with children or adolescents in an educational setting
- Ability to follow directions and manage a classroom effectively
