Summary: Nephrology Associates of Northern Illinois and Indiana (NANI) is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Biller to join our Revenue Cycle team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely billing of professional services for office, inpatient, dialysis, and other specialty services. This position plays a critical role in maximizing reimbursement by ensuring accurate charge entry, coding validation, insurance verification, claim submission, and reconciliation while maintaining compliance with payer and regulatory guidelines.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Accurately enter and review manual charges for professional services daily.
  • Work billing work queues to resolve charge edits and claim errors prior to submission.
  • Ensure timely and accurate billing for office, inpatient, dialysis, and other physician services.
  • Review documentation to ensure diagnosis codes, procedure codes, modifiers, place of service, and provider information are complete and accurate prior to claim submission.
  • Verify patient demographic and insurance information for accuracy.
  • Perform insurance eligibility verification and document findings appropriately.
  • Review charge reconciliation reports daily to identify and resolve missing or incomplete charges.
  • Communicate with physicians, advanced practice providers, clinical staff, and other departments to resolve documentation and billing discrepancies.
  • Maintain working knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance, and managed care billing requirements.
  • Ensure payer-specific billing guidelines are followed to minimize denials.
  • Maintain accurate documentation within the practice management system.
  • Utilize Microsoft Excel and reporting tools to reconcile billing activity.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, training, and continuous process improvement initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).
  • Minimum of 5 years of medical billing experience, preferably within multi-specialty physician practice.
  • Experience with physician professional billing.
  • Working knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS Level II coding, and modifier usage.
  • Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer billing requirements.
  • Strong understanding of insurance verification, charge entry, claim edits, and billing workflows.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple assignments while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment Excellent keyboarding and data entry skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with nephrology, dialysis physician billing preferred.
  • Experience using Acumen, Epic, NextGen, or other electronic health record (EHR) and practice management systems preferred.
