The Ultrasound Supervisor provides supervision to Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland, Walnut Creek and San Ramon sonographers in a radiology modality (e.g. X-ray radiography, ultrasound, MRI, mammography and computed tomography (CT)). May also include supervision of radiology technical support staff. Oversees employees, enforces policies and procedures, and monitors productivity. Supervises staff productivity and performance; resolves or escalates daily clinical, and operational issues.
Responsibilities
Leadership/SupervisionÂ
• Supervises licensed technologists in their daily work assignments and  responsible for the workflow in the department.Â
• Monitors the schedules and maintains adequate staffing. Follows procedures  from one shift to another for coverage of sick and tardiness. Works with theÂ
 department Manager for ensuring adequate coverage.Â
• Working supervisor assists with procedures and patient care.Â
• Responsible for training of staff to create positive work environment and  increase job skills. Uses appropriate forms for orientation and equipmentÂ
orientation.Â
• Reviews and evaluates job performances on an ongoing basis. Communicates  any job performance issues to employee and to the department Manager in aÂ
timely manner.Â
• Completes written performance appraisals by the due date.Â
• Organizes workflow according to the degree of urgency.Â
• Coordinates patient examinations that have special circumstances and/or  multiple examinations that interface with other Radiology sections.Â
• Facilitates patient transport.Â
• Monitors and insures equitable distribution of workload and work assignments  for employees.Â
• Assigns lunch and break relief.Â
• Maintains patient waiting times to a minimum. Provides service recovery ifÂ
necessary. Â
• Coaches and instructs technologists as necessary in proper performance ofÂ
departmental procedures and use of equipment. Â
• Answers telephone inquiries or requests and communicates information toÂ
coordinate the department’s services.Â
• Participates in the interview process for hiring new employees.Â
• Performs in a timely manner the disciplinary action process.Â
• Operates and displays expertise and skill in the use of all Radiology equipment  in the department. Is current on all procedures and troubleshooting ofÂ

Qualifications
Required:Â
- 2-3 years previous supervisory skills   Â
- RDMS Certification
- Demonstrated subject matter knowledge of a radiology modality. Ability to apply principles to an acute care setting to ensure operations meet regulatory standards.   Â
- In-depth knowledge of radiology equipment in order to operate and monitor all relevant technology.   Â
- Strong knowledge of medical center, HR and UC policies and processes. Knowledge and ability to monitor compliance with relevant internal policies and external regulations.   Â
- Demonstrated leadership skills in training and guiding employees on radiology modality techniques. Motivates and inspires staff to improve laboratory services.   Â
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize effectively to meet deadlines in a complex, challenging environment.   Â
- Ability to organize assigned staff and unit operations in an efficient and effective manner. Skills to coordinate schedules of the patient, doctor, technicians, and nurse to serve the patient in a timely manner.   Â
- Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with physicians, researchers, radiology technicians, and other clinical staff. Interpersonal skills to work with a variety of patient populations and show sensitivity.   Â
- Skills to diagnose and troubleshoot equipment issues and software malfunctions in order to contact appropriate service personnel. Demonstrated ability to solve problems and suggest solutions within defined procedures and policies through critical thinking process.
- Verbal and written communication skills to explain technical radiology concepts, actively listen, persuade, advise, and counsel.  Â

- Bachelor’s degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
