Chemical Lab Manager


Position Overview

The Laboratory Manager oversees daily lab operations, quality control, and technical support for production, frac, and water & solids treatment activities. This is a hands-on leadership role focused on workflow efficiency, analytical accuracy, safety compliance, and real-time decision support for field and plant operations, while supporting the Chemical Engineer and R&D initiatives.


Key Responsibilities

Laboratory Operations & Quality Control

  • Manage daily laboratory workflows and ensure accurate, timely testing
  • Perform and supervise QC testing of raw materials, in-process blends, and finished products
  • Conduct routine analyses (ICWA, ATP, TSS, TPH, FTIR, amine residuals, etc.)
  • Maintain inventory of chemicals, reagents, and consumables
  • Oversee calibration, maintenance, and vendor servicing for laboratory equipment
  • Ensure proper documentation, data integrity, and adherence to regulatory and ISO laboratory standards


Technical & Field Support

  • Provide analytical guidance and real-time quality decisions to production and operations teams
  • Lead testing and optimization of produced-water treatment processes in oilfield operations, including evaluating chemical performance and delivering clear treatability results and operational KPIs
  • Support troubleshooting of field performance issues and recommend adjustments based on data and lab results
  • Support development testing under the direction of the Chemical Engineer and in coordination with R&D initiatives
  • Assist with product trials, performance evaluations, and new chemical implementation
  • Troubleshoot emulsions and support recommendations for demulsifiers and oil–water separation strategies
  • Validate field performance through testing and analysis, providing data-driven recommendations


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience managing laboratory operations or quality control programs
  • Experience supporting oil & gas chemical applications such as Hâ‚‚S treatment, produced water treatment, frac chemicals, or related programs preferred
  • Strong understanding of lab-to-field application and performance validation
  • Experience working alongside field or operations teams in an oil & gas environment
