The Library Page handles a range of routine tasks, including shelving materials, operating the library book sorter, and keeping the shelves neat and organized. This role also involves background support duties such as sorting materials from other libraries, emptying book drops, and managing holds.

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Shelves library collection based on the Dewey Decimal system; maintains the shelves in orderly, accurate, and pristine condition.

  • Operates technology and executes clerical tasks such as processing transfers, holds, and material discharging; utilizes the library’s Automated Materials Handling (AMH)

  • machine, and ensures proper functioning; uses computers and scanning equipment, inventory wands, and other library technology to complete tasks.

  • Works independently and as part of a team in the completion of work; fosters teamwork and collaboration; actively participates in team meetings and daily team huddles.

  • Provides exceptional customer service; utilizes the library’s customer experience philosophy; assists customers in locating library equipment and materials and navigating the library; guides customers to appropriate staff for further assistance.

 

Qualifications

Experience:.One year of previous experience in library, retail, public service, or related experience is preferred. Candidates must pass a basic skill and shelving test. Must possess strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and organizational skills. A commitment to accuracy is essential to this role. Must be at least 16 years of age.

  

Education: None required.

Licenses & Certifications: None required.

 

Language:Proficiencyin verbal and written English language is required. Must have strong communication skills.

 

Environmental or Physical Demands:Work involves lifting and carrying up to 40 pounds, pushing and maneuvering book carts filled with library materials, loading, and stacking library route bins, walking, standing, reaching high and low shelves, and other limited physical activities. Emptying outside book returns in various weather conditions is also required.
