Engineer – Climate Change Mitigation in the Oil & Gas Sector

At CarbonLimits, we work where climate ambition meets operational reality. One of thefastest ways to slow near-term warming is to cut methane emissions, and the oil& gas sector has a critical role to play.

We’re hiring anEngineer to join our global consulting work on oil & gas climatemitigation, with a strong emphasis on methane emissions from upstreamoperations. This is a hands-on role for someone who has experience in theO&G sector, and who wants to spend the next stage of it turning complextechnical challenges into practical solutions for clients around the world.

The role

You’ll work aspart of project teams delivering high-impact consulting work for governments,NGOs, development banks, and oil & gas operators.

From day one,you’ll be involved in substantive project work, applying your upstreambackground to real-world problems. You’ll analyse operations and emissionsdata, join field campaigns, build cost and abatement assessments, and helpclients understand what they can actually do about their emissions. Over time,you’ll take increasing responsibility, leading workstreams and owning pieces ofdelivery end-to-end.

You’re a doerwho enjoys combining analysis, field engagement, and collaboration withstakeholders across cultures and geographies, and you are comfortable whenplans need to be rebuilt on the spot.

A realistic “first project” example

You might joina methane assessment for an operator in a high-impact region, preparing for andtaking part in a field measurement campaign, working through production andequipment data with site staff, assessing the cost and feasibility of specificmitigation options, and helping the team translate the results into anabatement plan the client can act on.

What you bring

Must-have

•     At least 3 years of relevanttechnical experience in the oil & gas sector, with direct exposure toupstream operations

•     A master degree in engineeringor similar

•     Resourcefulness, flexibilityand a sense of adventure: our work takes us to sites and countries where thingsrarely go exactly to plan, and we look for people who find that energisingrather than exhausting

•     A solutions-oriented mindset;you are drawn to the practical question of what can be done, and you translatetechnical analysis into practical recommendations rather than stopping at thefindings

•     Strong analytical andproblem-solving skills, with the ability to turn data into practical insights

•     Willingness to travel regularlyinternationally, including to client sites and the field

•     Excellent English, written andspoken; you will be drafting client-facing material from early on

•     Translate complex issues inpractical language for both technical and non-technical audiences

•     A team player who communicates clearly,shares knowledge and supports others

We are not expecting you to meet allthese criteria, but a few in the list will be a plus:

•     Field experience in upstreamoil & gas operations

•     Field experience with LDARprogrammes, OGMP 2.0 Level 4/5 quantification, or executing measurementcampaigns

•     Familiarity with OGMP 2.0reporting, or with methane emissions more broadly (inventories, datasets,mitigation and measurement technologies)

•     Process engineering experience

•     Consulting experience, andcomfort working directly with clients

•     Project management experience, keepingtimelines, quality, and stakeholders moving together

•     Experience communicatingtechnical topics to diverse audiences, from operators to policymakers

•     Curious and creative mindset eagerto explore new solutions to clients’ problems

•     Additional languages: Arabic,Spanish, or Portuguese are particularly valued
