Overview
A family in Palo Alto, CA, is seeking an experienced, full-time, live-out House Manager to oversee the day-to-day needs of their private residence. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working in formal, high-end households and a proven track record of supporting high-profile principals with the utmost discretion and professionalism. This is a hands-on position requiring someone who is equally comfortable managing household projects, coordinating vendors, organizing and maintaining the home, and assisting with daily household tasks. The family is seeking a proactive, resourceful, and detail-oriented individual who takes ownership of responsibilities, anticipates needs, and can work independently with minimal direction. While this position does not currently involve managing household staff, the scope of responsibilities may expand over time. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience working with a single family long-term, excellent references, and a demonstrated commitment to confidentiality. The general schedule is Monday through Friday, approximately 8/9am - 6/7pm, with occasional evening or weekend flexibility as needed. The family is looking to hire as soon as they find the right fit.Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily operations, upkeep, and organization of the residence, ensuring the home is maintained to the highest standards.
- Perform hands-on household tasks, including organization
- Coordinate, schedule, and oversee outside vendors and service providers, including plumbers, electricians, handymen, pest control, internet providers and contractors.
- Manage household maintenance, repairs, improvement projects, from routine upkeep to larger initiatives such as window or skylight installations and landscaping projects.
- Assist with home furnishing, décor, and sourcing household items as needed.
- Oversee home organization projects and implement efficient household systems and procedures.
- Proactively identify maintenance needs and ensure repairs and projects are completed efficiently and to a high standard.
- Communicate with neighbors, contractors, and outside parties on behalf of the household when appropriate.
- Coordinate deliveries, installations, appointments, and other household-related services.
- Maintain household records, vendor contacts, maintenance schedules, and other organizational systems.
- Run household errands and assist with miscellaneous requests as needed.
- Adapt to evolving household needs and take on additional responsibilities over time.
- Maintain the highest level of discretion, confidentiality, and professionalism at all times.
Requirements
- Extensive experience working in private residences for ultra-high-net-worth and high-profile individuals.
- Prior House Manager experience in a formal household environment, with a strong understanding of luxury residential standards.
- Demonstrated longevity working with a single family and stellar professional references.
- Proven history of maintaining strict confidentiality and honoring nondisclosure agreements.
- Must be willing to sign an NDA during the interview process.
- Strong knowledge of household maintenance, vendor coordination, home improvement projects, and residential operations.
- Willingness and ability to perform hands-on household duties rather than solely overseeing others.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities.
- Proactive, resourceful, trustworthy, and capable of working independently.
- Strong communication skills and a professional, service-oriented demeanor.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to drive as needed.
- Must have Tdap and MMR vaccinations; influenza vaccination preferred.
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends and travel infrequently when required.
- Additional language skills are a plus but not required.
Salary and Benefits
The family is offering a competitive salary of $150K++, depending on experience and qualifications.
