SENIOR DRIVER II

 

CDL Class A license required 

Responsibilities

Deliver materials and supplies to various locations utilizing various types of vehicles and equipment via city streets and state and interstate highways; this includes operating flatbed trucks and tractor- trailers for the delivery of pipes, fittings and related materials.

Load and unload shipments received from vendors at various PGW locations may be required to accept deliveries at vendor warehouses for transport to company locations.

Plan daily routes to expeditiously make deliveries, observing the time of scheduled appointments.

Balance loads to transport material without damage to pipe coating, etc.

Control towed equipment; operate snow plowing equipment and perform rigging work when necessary.

Determine methods used to deliver materials and meters to job sites, residences and commercial properties.

Coordinate the efforts of helpers.

Process-related paperwork associated with the delivery of material.

Ensure the security of the material, tools, equipment, etc. for assigned vehicle.

Ensure immediate responses to emergency delivery requests.

Maintain a clean vehicle and working conditions of tools and equipment.

Extend courtesy to the public while operating vehicles and equipment.

Interact with internal departments and vendors concerning delivery needs, provide information and discrepancies.

Works with storerooms to deliver, pick up material and equipment to fulfill material demands of PGW.

Perform duties of lower rated personnel within the Delivery force as required.

Perform other work when necessitated by operating conditions.

Qualifications

High School Diploma/GEDMust currently possess a valid PA CDL Class A license and pass the hazmat test within one (1) year of hire.

Must have a general knowledge of Materials Management departmental procedures as well as corporate procedures and policies pertaining to personnel and storeroom activities.

Must have a complete working knowledge of city streets and be able to drive on city streets, state and interstate highways with the ability to plan daily routes to expeditiously make deliveries, observing any time scheduled appointments.

Must have a working knowledge of methods of rigging and be responsible for applying safety measures when necessary.

Must have a working knowledge of stock items utilized by the various departments needing delivery service.

Must be able to winch and snatch block while operating flatbed trucks for the delivery of pipe, fillings and related material.

Must have good communication skills to effectively interact with all levels of personnel and external vendors.

The position is subject to weekend and shift work.

 

Subject drug & alcohol testing in accordance with collective bargaining agreement & PGW policy.
