Job Summary

The Line Cook at the Dornoch Grille prepares and presents high-quality menu items in a timely and consistent manner for the club’s casual dining outlet. This position works as part of the culinary team to ensure food is prepared according to club standards, recipes, and member preferences. The Line Cook maintains a clean, organized, and efficient workstation while upholding food safety and sanitation standards. This role contributes to a positive kitchen environment and supports the club’s commitment to exceptional member dining experiences.

Essential Functions

  • Prepare and cook menu items according to club recipes, portion controls, and presentation standards.
  • Ensure all food is prepared accurately, efficiently, and delivered in a timely manner.
  • Set up and stock stations with necessary ingredients, supplies, and equipment before service.
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and sanitation of workstations and kitchen areas.
  • Follow all food safety and handling procedures in compliance with health regulations and club policies.
  • Work collaboratively with other kitchen and service staff to ensure smooth service operations.
  • Assist in receiving, storing, and rotating food and supplies to maintain freshness and quality.
  • Monitor product levels and communicate needs to the Sous Chef or Executive Chef as necessary.
  • Help with daily prep work, special events, and other kitchen duties as assigned.
  • Uphold a positive, professional attitude and contribute to a respectful, team-oriented kitchen culture.

Work Environment

  • Fast-paced kitchen and casual dining setting within the club.

  • Requires flexibility to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on dining operations and events.
  • May involve working in confined spaces or standing for extended periods.
  • Professional appearance, cleanliness, and adherence to safety standards always required.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand and work on feet for extended periods during shifts.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, and carrying food items, equipment, and supplies (up to 40 lbs).
  • Ability to work safely around hot surfaces, open flames, sharp utensils, and kitchen equipment.
  • Requires manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for chopping, stirring, plating, and other kitchen tasks.
  • Must be able to tolerate warm temperatures and a busy, high-energy environment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with team members in a noisy kitchen setting.

Education and Experience (Required and Preferred)

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 2 years prior experience as a line cook, prep cook, or similar role in a restaurant or club environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic cooking techniques, food safety, and sanitation standards required.
  • Culinary training or certification is a plus but not required.
  • Ability to follow recipes, portion standards, and plating guidelines consistently.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills are essential.
