ANCC Magnet designated UPMC Passavant is currently hiring a Part-Time Nursing Assistant to support our Orthopedic Unit at the McCandless location.

The Nursing Assistant is a valued step in the UPMC Inpatient Patient Care Support Career Ladder, with opportunities for continued growth and advancement. Title and salary will be determined based upon education and patient care experience.

Our Part-Time Nursing Assistants typically work 24 hourseach week to cover daylight, evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts. Hours may vary by unit. Candidates with prior patient care experience are highly preferred and encouraged to apply.

**Hired candidates will be required to attend Full-Time orientation (classroom-based and unit-based) at the McCandless campus of Passavant for up to two weeks prior to beginning in this role.

Responsibilities:

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Perform duties in line with system-wide competencies/behaviors.

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Report equipment malfunctions.

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Establish effective communication and professional relationships.

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Assist with unit activities (e.g., responding to call lights, passing meal trays, transporting patients).

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Receive and act on feedback; identify and communicate learning needs.

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Participate in self-review and improve knowledge, skills, and performance.

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Communicate clearly with the healthcare team and understand cultural diversity.

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Support workplace safety and maintain productive relationships.

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Perform nursing assistant core responsibilities (e.g., ADLs, point of care testing, vital signs, telemetry monitor application, HAC & PSI prevention, urine specimen collection).

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Provide direct patient care as directed by the RN.

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Maintain a safe and organized environment.

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Acquire and distribute supplies and equipment.

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Deliver patient nourishments and mail; provide diversional activities.

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Document in medical records and complete clerical functions.

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Comply with safety policies and procedures.

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Adhere to patient care and hospital information policies.

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Respond to emergent situations and provide companionship/supervision as required.

聽聽聽聽聽聽 Suggest and support departmental changes; assume responsibility for assignments.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of UPMC nursing assistant or EIC training program
  • Knowledge of body mechanics and transfer techniques.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Access to medications is limited to the distribution of the medication to the nurse.

Licensure/Certification/Clearances:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within 30 days of hire
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
