Job Description: Manufacturing Assembly Technician

Job Title: Manufacturing Assembly Technician (Electronics/Cable Assembly)

Department: Production/Manufacturing

Reports To: Production Supervisor

Employment Type: Temporary Contract

Job Summary

We are seeking detail-oriented Manufacturing Assembly Technicians for temporary work on our Production team. In this role, you will perform mechanical and electronic assembly, hand and machine soldering, and cable/harness fabrication to support the build of high-quality products. The ideal candidate has strong manual dexterity, attention to detail, and a commitment to producing work that meets strict quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble components, subassemblies, and finished products according to work instructions, drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs)
  • Perform through-hole and/or surface-mount (SMT) soldering using hand irons, rework stations, or soldering equipment in accordance with IPC-A-610 / J-STD-001 standards
  • Cut, strip, crimp, and terminate wires and cables; build wire harnesses and cable assemblies per specifications and schematics
  • Read and interpret assembly drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics
  • Inspect completed work for defects, cold joints, shorts, or dimensional errors, and rework as needed
  • Use hand tools, crimping tools, wire strippers, multimeters, and other test equipment to verify quality and function
  • Label, package, and stage completed assemblies for the next production step or shipping
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workstation in compliance with 5S and safety guidelines
  • Accurately complete production paperwork, travelers, and quality documentation
  • Identify and report process issues, defects, or nonconformances to supervisors
  • Meet daily/weekly production and quality targets
  • Follow ESD (electrostatic discharge) handling procedures when working with sensitive components

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior experience in electronics assembly, soldering, or cable/harness fabrication preferred
  • Basic ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and work instructions
  • Strong hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills for detailed, repetitive work
  • Ability to use basic hand tools, crimpers, and measuring instruments (calipers, rulers)
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks
  • Good vision (with correction if needed) for close, detailed inspection work
  • Reliable attendance and ability to work as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications

  • IPC-A-610 and/or J-STD-001 certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Experience with SMT rework or micro-soldering
  • Familiarity with ESD-safe handling procedures
  • Previous experience in an electronics, aerospace, medical device, or automotive manufacturing environment

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit or stand at a workstation for up to 8 hours
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs (11 kg) occasionally
  • Manual dexterity for fine assembly and soldering tasks
  • Ability to work with magnification tools/microscopes for extended periods

Work Environment

  • Manufacturing/production floor setting
  • Exposure to soldering fumes (with proper ventilation/fume extraction provided)
  • PPE provided as required (safety glasses, ESD wrist straps, etc.)

 

Employment information

This is a contract role that is not eligible for Hellbender benefits. The chosen candidates will be employed by a third-party agency and contracted to Hellbender for the duration of the project.
