Work Schedule: Varies 1-6 hours per week, not to exceed 20. Shifts based on the organization's operational needs. This position will work primarily on campus with the potential of performing some work hours remotely (from home).
OVERVIEW
Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) employs student-focused professionals with equity-mindsets. Established in 1963, Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) is a non-profit corporation led by a 14-member board of elected student leaders. ASI is an auxiliary organization authorized by the California State University Board of Trustees to perform Student Life functions for Cal Poly Pomona students. ASI provides opportunities for student engagement, student leadership and employment, and a multitude of Student Life programs and services e.g., recreation and wellbeing, student union and activities, student government, clubs and organizations, food pantry, and childcare. ASI accepts the responsibility for conscientiously managing mandatory student fees and state-owned facilities: $18M annual operating budget, $5M annual debt service, approximately $24M in reserves, and 294,253 square feet of student space (student union, recreation center, and pool). The Fitness team within ASI Campus Recreation strives to bring a wide range of program offerings within the BRIC. From hosting over 40 free group fitness classes per week to our personal training services provided by our nationally certified staff, Fitness offers something for everyone in our campus community. Our consultation services provide an entry point for those beginning their fitness journey and our specialized workshops provide deeper knowledge at a competitive industry price. POSITION DEFINITION
Under minimal supervision from the Group Fitness Supervisor & Fitness Manager, the Indoor Cycling Instructor is responsible for leading group fitness classes and promoting the fitness program at the Bronco Recreation and Intramural Complex (BRIC). The Indoor Cycling Instructor is responsible for offering safe, effective, and fun exercise formats in a group setting and performs skilled tasks requiring advanced certification, specialized knowledge, prior relevant experience, and considerable independent judgment and decision-making.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Lead in person (at the BRIC) structured group activities and/or fitness classes appropriate for varying levels of physical fitness and experience
• Arrive on time to scheduled class or clinic; ensure that classes begin and end on time
• Clean and organize studio (including equipment used) after each group fitness class
• Ensure proper check-in of participants for instructional clinics and fee-based programs
• Enforce fitness studio and BRIC policies
• Report accurate class participation numbers, as directed
• Assist with special events as assigned
• Maintain current knowledge of other ASI and Campus Recreation programs and services
• Maintain open communication with the Group Fitness Supervisor & Fitness Manager
• Attend trainings, meetings, and workshops as required
• Maintain relevant certifications including CPR/AED and First Aid, and specialized certifications if applicable
• Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
• Minimum of 3 months of customer service experience
• Minimum of 3 months of Indoor Cycling instruction experience
• Athletics & Fitness Association of America (AFAA) Indoor Cycling Instructor certification, or equivalent, required at time of hire
• Demonstrated ability to work with an ethnically diverse and culturally pluralistic student population and campus community
• Lay Responder CPR/AED/FA within 30 days of hire (provided by ASI)
• Ability to satisfactorily complete a background check (including a criminal records check)

WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, and hear; manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination, and verbal communication; use of office equipment: telephones, calculator, copier and fax. Must be able to walk, stand, bend, and lift up to 45 pounds.
