Job DetailsJob Location: Caldwell Medical Center - PRINCETON, KY 42445CALDWELL MEDICAL CENTER JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE:           Medical Technologist DEPARTMENT:  Laboratory REPORTS TO:     Laboratory Director POSITION SUMMARY: Is accountable for the delivery of consistently high quality work during their assigned shift. Functions under the supervision of the Laboratory Director. Is accountable for the effective, efficient and safe operations of the Laboratory ensuring that the objectives of the Laboratory department and the organization are met. Ensures appropriate organizational and patient safety practices are in use. Promotes good public relations through contacts with patients, practitioners, visitors, employees, peers and the public at large. Maintains confidentiality of patient information. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Responsible for specimen collections and the prompt accurate performance of laboratory tests in all departments of the Clinical Laboratory. Be able to perform, monitor and evaluate patient results for quality assurance and relationships to disease states. Analyzes quality control and participating in preventative maintenance programs. Advanced problem solving capabilities and theoretical/technical knowledge are essential. Follow Laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results. Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency-testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples. Adhere to the laboratory’s quality control policies and document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed. Follow the Laboratory’s established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the Laboratory’s established acceptable levels of performance. Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problem or immediately notify the director. Assists in training and orientation of new personnel. Maintains a clean, safe working environment. Assists in maintaining established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality improvement program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.  Assists in maintaining departmental reports and records as directed.   Assists in implementing department specific goals and objectives in keeping with overall Laboratory and organizational goals and objectives.  Assists in maintaining adequate and effective communication between the Laboratory and ancillary departments for problem solving. Interacts with others (on the phone or in person) in a positive, professional and appropriate manner. Works cooperatively with others.  Has respect for and an understanding of the contributions of all team members. Attends required meetings and participates in educational programs.   Protects patient confidentiality by promoting appropriate staff communication practices.    Works shifts as required. Performs other duties as assigned.    QualificationsPOSITION QUALIFICATIONS MINIMUM EDUCATION Bachelor of Science degree in a laboratory science or in Medical Technology (active Progress in degree requirements acceptable). Certification from nationally recognized registry for Medical Technologists. PREFERRED EDUCATION Bachelor of Science degree in a laboratory science or in Medical Technology (active Progress in degree requirements acceptable). Certification from nationally recognized registry for Medical Technologists. MINIMUM EXPERIENCE 0 – 6 months working in all area of the Clinical Laboratory. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE 0 – 6 months working in all area of the Clinical Laboratory.
