Job Summary

The CNA performs nursing procedures and patient care tasks under the general supervision of a professional staff nurse.  Attends to personal needs and comfort of patients and performs a variety of other duties to assist the staff nurse responsible for these patients.  The Nurse's Aide, although supervised, proceeds alone on routine tasks, referring questionable situations to the appropriate staff nurse or nursing supervisor.


Duties & Responsibilities

Demonstrates competency, individually and as part of the multidisciplinary team, in performing clinical care and assessment of all patient populations.
Provides personal care assistance to patients, including bathing, dressing, and feeding, and provides written reports for the patient's medical record on care provided.
Prepares and checks equipment/supplies and utilizes resources and materials in a safe and efficient manner.
Observes and communications changes in the patient's condition to the staff nurse and/or nursing supervisor.
Communicates and collaborates with other members of the health care     team.
Supports unit-based Quality Assurance activities and maintains established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
Demonstrates sensitivity to patient's comfort and privacy and responds appropriately to verbal and non-verbal behavior of patients, family, visitors, and hospital personnel.
Participates in educational programs and in-services meetings.
Maintains confidentiality of patient and unit care data.


Requirements

High school graduate and completion of an approved Nursing Assistant Training program required.  Must maintain a current Rhode Island Department of Health CNA license and CPR certification.  Must be at least 18 years old.  Proficiency in the English language required
