Purpose:Ā This position is responsible for the overall operations and management of the Health Information Management department with key responsibilities to include (but not limited to) implementing and overseeing processes to assure the security of medical records and health information systems, ensuring the accurate and timely coding of patient diagnoses, ensuring the accurate and timely completion of medical records, ensuring consistent compliance with relevant laws, requirements,Ā oversight standards, and company policies and procedures,Ā and effectively supervising department staff.Ā

KEY RESPONSIBILITIESĀ
- Supervises the Health Information management staff and monitors department budget.Ā Ā EnsuresĀ timelyĀ andĀ appropriate processingĀ of patient records.Ā Ā Ensures that chart deficiencies are resolved inĀ a timelyĀ manner.Ā Ā Establishes andĀ maintainsĀ safeguards for security of health information systems and medical records.Ā Ā Manages the release of information function for theĀ facility, andĀ maintains policies and standards of practice toĀ assureĀ that release of information requestsĀ areĀ appropriateĀ andĀ meetĀ legal standards.Ā Ā Develops systems for retention and destruction of overflow records and discharge records.Ā Provides oversight for concurrent chart review.Ā
- Provides development guidance andĀ assistanceĀ in the identification, implementation, and maintenance of the organizationās information privacy policies and procedures.Ā Ā Provides oversight for hospital-wide ORYX activities.Ā
- Develops a mechanism to track access to protected health information.Ā
- Develops and reviews all applicable policies and procedures for Health InformationĀ managementĀ and provides oversight for HIPAA compliance.Ā
- Participates with leaders from governing body, management, and medical and allied staffĀ to foster information privacy awareness within the organization.Ā

- Ā Maintains good relationships with physicians, allied staff, and hospital employees.Ā Ā IdentifiesĀ and communicates problems and/or opportunities to improve processes withĀ appropriate departmentĀ staff.Ā
- Provides education/in-services/training in Health Information Management, ORYX, and HIPAA compliance as needed.Ā
- Attends meetings that include, but may not be limited to, Performance Improvement Committee, Environment of Care Committee, and FMEA Committee.Ā
- Assigns ICD-10Ā and/or DSM codes to ensureĀ accurateĀ billing and correct reimbursement.Ā
- Reads and interprets medical records documentation toĀ identifyĀ all diagnoses, conditions, problems, and/or other reasons for patientsāĀ medical and behavioral health care.Ā
- Provides the highest quality customer service based onĀ the hospitalās Service Excellence program standards.Ā
