Position Summary
Canyon Bicycles USA is seeking an experienced, high-level Bicycle Mechanic for a full-time, temporary project role at our Rancho Cucamonga distribution warehouse. This assignment focuses on a high-priority refurbishment and inventory disposition initiative: inspecting, overhauling, and evaluating hundreds of returned marketing, event, and field bicycles to determine disposition into B-Stock (resale), teardown, or scrap.Â
Because Canyon bicycles feature proprietary, precision German engineering, this role requires an advanced mechanic capable of performing thorough mechanical diagnostics, secondary quality checks, and precision assembly across premium road, gravel, and mountain bike platforms.Â
Employment is at-will. The assignment has an anticipated duration of approximately three months (through January 2027), with the potential for extension evaluated based on warehouse operational needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Fleet Assessment & Triage: Inspect returned marketing, demo, and field fleets; perform rigorous mechanical checks to categorize units into B-Stock resale, component salvage, or scrap.
- Refurbishment & Technical Tuning: Overhaul, tune, and rebuild proprietary Canyon road, gravel, MTB, and e-bike systems strictly adhering to factory technical standards and exact torque specifications.Â
- Quality Assurance & Safety Checks: Conduct comprehensive multi-point quality-control spot checks on all builds; verify frame alignment, carbon structural integrity, clearance tolerances, and component functionality prior to resale release.Â
- Advanced Diagnostics & Component Repair: Troubleshoot modern electronic and hydraulic systems, including wireless/wired drivetrains (Shimano Di2, SRAM AXS), hydraulic brake bleeds, integrated cockpits, internal cable routing, and suspension setup.Â
- Defect Logging & Inventory Flow: Accurately track batch progress, log refurbishment status, report scrapped components, and update internal warehouse systems using scan guns and inventory software.Â
- Shop Cleanliness & Tool Management: Keep assembly bays organized, calibrated, and stocked with necessary tooling; report inventory shortages to team leads.Â
- Cross-Functional Warehouse Support: Assist distribution teams with staging, unboxing, repacking, or adjacent warehouse workflows during peak periods.Â
Qualifications & Requirements
- Professional Experience: Minimum 2–5+ years of hands-on experience as a professional bicycle mechanic in a high-end bike shop, service course, or manufacturer setting (no entry-level/beginners; advanced mechanical proficiency required).Â
- Education & Certification: High School Diploma or GED required; professional certification (UBI, Barnett Bicycle Institute, PBMA, or equivalent) preferred.Â
- Technical Expertise: Demonstrated expertise with modern bicycle technologies: electronic shifting (SRAM AXS, Shimano Di2), hydraulic disc systems, tubeless configurations, and proprietary internal routing.Â
- Quality & Analytical Mindset: High attention to detail with the ability to identify micro-damage, stress fatigue, or defective components to maintain brand quality standards.Â
- Pace & Systems: Ability to consistently meet daily throughput targets in a production-oriented warehouse environment; basic computer literacy and comfort with inventory scan tools.Â
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
- Environment: Active distribution and assembly floor subject to fluctuating temperatures, shop noise, and dust.Â
- Demands: Ability to stand and move continuously for up to 8 hours per day; regularly lift and maneuver bicycles and boxes weighing up to 20 lbs routinely, and up to 50 lbs on occasion.Â
- Dexterity: Fine motor skills and strong visual acuity required for mechanical calibration and cosmetic inspections.Â
