Circus Instructor

Job Description Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Program Director, the Instructor is responsible for providing quality instruction, friendly service, and a safe environment for the Dance, Circus or Gymnastics classes.

Required Qualifications:

The Dance, Circus or Gymnastics instructor must possess strong communication skills, the ability to lead children and parents in class activities, pay attention to detail pertaining to registration on rosters, and be able to work with minimal supervision.

Desired Skills:

· Prior experience teaching Dance, Circus or Gymnastics.

· Must be at least 16 years of age.

· Strong knowledge of Child Development.

· Ability to thoroughly explain developmental programs and assist families with enrollment.

· Friendly personality and love for children.

· Organized and able to work independently.

Essential Functions:

· Demonstrate and teach basic skills to a small group of children (class age ranges: 3-10 years).

· Report to scheduled work shifts on a timely basis (15-20 minutes before the class begins in order to be prepared).

· Secure substitutes whenever unable to work assigned shifts. Substitution information must be shared with supervisor, and changes should be in writing.

· Promote a safe atmosphere at the YMCA. Be professional, alert, courteous, and tactful with all members and staff.

· Must notify supervisor of any broken equipment, or other maintenance concerns in the appropriate time period.

· Responsible for knowing and implementing emergency procedures as needed.

· Must attend all staff meetings, and are encouraged to participate in special events hosted by the YMCA.

· Must wear appropriate uniform when teaching class.

· Responsible for informing class participants of upcoming events, information about classes, reminders about the next session, etc.

· Provide safe and friendly atmosphere for members participating in classes.

· Enhance member and staff relationships.

· Provide quality customer service to members and staff.

· Increase member participation in YMCA programs and improve member retention.

Physical Requirements:

· Ability to perceive and discriminate odors, colors, textures and sounds.

· Ability to demonstrate dance, circus or gymnastics skills.
