Qualifications

Old Dominion Brush Company (ODB) and NiteHawk (Alamo Group companies), are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead product design and manufacturing engineering for our Richmond, VA operation.

In this role, you will oversee the development, documentation, testing, and production launch of new products and product enhancements. You will lead engineering and manufacturing-improvement initiatives that strengthen product quality, performance, safety, cost competitiveness, and on-time delivery.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and develop the Design Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering teams.

  • Manage new-product development from concept through prototype, testing, documentation, and production implementation.

  • Ensure designs meet performance, structural integrity, manufacturability, quality, and cost objectives.

  • Oversee CAD models, drawings, bills of materials, product specifications, and engineering documentation.

  • Support the selection of materials, components, tooling, equipment, and manufacturing processes.

  • Partner with Operations, Supply Chain, Marketing, Technical Services, dealers, and customers to resolve product and manufacturing issues.

  • Drive Lean and continuous-improvement efforts, including flow manufacturing, Kanban, manufacturing cells, labor productivity, material flow, and work-in-process reduction.

  • Develop manufacturing strategies, capital plans, plant-layout improvements, and departmental budgets.

  • Monitor engineering projects, manufacturing costs, labor standards, operating metrics, and project schedules.

  • Provide leadership that promotes accountability, collaboration, safety, innovation, and continuous improvement.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering required.

  • At least 5 years of product design and development experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • At least 2–3 years of supervisory, project-management, and budget-management experience.

  • Experience with mobile equipment, hydraulic systems, steel fabrication, welding, machining, forming, and assembly.

  • Strong knowledge of 3D CAD, engineering documentation, BOM creation, stress analysis, material selection, and structural design.

  • Experience with Lean or World Class Manufacturing practices, including JIT, continuous flow, Kanban, and manufacturing cells.

  • Strong communication, planning, problem-solving, and leadership skills.

  • Ability to work in both office and manufacturing environments; occasional travel may be required.
