As the local expert in automation, digital transformation, and cybersecurity, you plan and organize cross-functional project teams and develop strategies to meet business needs across a cluster of plants. Reporting to the Engineering team, you serve as the primary owner of manufacturing automation systems, cybersecurity, and Capital Expenditure (CapEx) projects related to automation and digital manufacturing transformation. You use your deep technical foundation and knowledge of local and global strategies to drive digital transformation, ensure system reliability, and deliver projects on time and within budget.

In collaboration with cross-functional partners, you will help develop and execute the localautomation anddigitalization agenda and lead initiatives according to agreed priorities. You will help deploy capital projects, ensuring they stay on budget, with senior supply chain leaders. In addition, you will work with local engineering teams withautomation anddigitalization projects and topics,monitorproject progress during projectdevelopmentand participate in optimization efforts, incorporating feedback learnings for general adaptation for other engineering teams. You will alsoparticipatein a digital community of practice,contributing toyourexpertise. To excel in this role, you mustdemonstrateyour knowledge of your technological area of expertise and develop more in-depth technical knowledge anddemonstrateyour highly refined influencing and presentation skills.

  • Strategic Planning & Digital Transformation
    • Develop, align, and execute site roadmaps for automation upgrades and Digital Manufacturing Transformation across the cluster
    • Serve as the digital advisor to identify projects for continuous improvement, waste reduction, and performance improvement using digital tools
    • Lead the development and execution of the Process, Control & Information Systems (PC&IS) and Digitalization roadmap to increase the Digital Maturity Index across six dimensions: Computerization, Connectivity, Visibility, Transparency, Predictive Capacity, and Adaptability
    • Drive multidisciplinary collaboration to define and improve real-time visibility across departments
    • Active participation in global/regional automation & systems development and security communications
    • Escalation to regional Automation Lead for desired exceptions or improvement ideas
  • CapEX Project Management
    • Own and execute Project Management responsibilities for all Capital Expenditure (CapEX) projects as part of the Automation and Digital Manufacturing Transformation
    • Lead the design, implementation, and commissioning of automation systems for food manufacturing processes, with primary expertise in Allen Bradley systems
    • Manage and oversee multiple automation projects from conception to completion, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and according to specifications
    • Own benefit and savings tracking throughout project progression
    • Deploy capital projects in collaboration with senior supply chain leaders, ensuring they stay on budget
    • Review and create project documentation, including system specifications, process flow diagrams, control schematics, and testing protocols
    • Manage system integration, commissioning, and startup on-site, ensuring systems are aligned with operational needs and regulatory requirements
    • Work with the engineering department across the full lifecycle of capital projects to ensure successful implementation and knowledge transfer
    • Conduct risk assessments, hazard analysis, and ensure automation systems are compliant with safety and quality regulations
  • Day-to-Day Operations & System Reliability
    • Responsible for day-to-day management of site automation systems within the cluster
    • Maintain a constant high level of system reliability for existing and newly deployed automation systems
    • Responsible for cybersecurity technology at the plant cluster following MDLZ standards for OT environment
    • Ensure site compliance with company standards for automation, infrastructure (MINT), and cybersecurity
    • Develop and execute site roadmaps for automation, OT infrastructure including delivery of shared infrastructure (IDC and OT components)
    • Serve as the issue escalation point for Automation, OT Automation Infrastructure, and cybersecurity
    • Develop and manage site and cluster budgets for support, maintenance, and lifecycle management in line with standards
    • Coordinate and ensure business involvement during technology lifecycle to support changes, upgrades, and replacements
    • Own the business continuity plan including disaster recovery of OT systems
    • Ensure alignment between local BCP and Enterprise recovery procedures regarding OT Automation systems
    • Develop disaster recovery plans for critical equipment
  • Technical Leadership & Capability Development
    • Lead a multifunctional team to design, implement, and fully utilize new automation and digital solutions that provide strong benefits for the cluster following cybersecurity standards for OT
    • Assess technical capabilities and define training roadmaps for the electrical and automation team
    • Develop PLC (Allen Bradley) technical knowledge to be extended to the maintenance team
    • Lead and mentor junior engineers, providing guidance and technical support
    • Develop capability for cybersecurity and automation within the cluster
    • Coordinate with other departments to identify improvements and implement continuous improvement strategies within automation systems
  • Governance & Compliance
    • Ensure new projects are aligned with global Mondel膿z automation and information systems standards and procedures
    • Ensure compliance with governmental regulatory OSHA and safety programs and processes
    • Actively apply Mondel膿z Global Automation and Information Systems standards and procedures
    • Collaborate with Cluster MDS lead and Plant Champion (Plant Maintenance Automation Lead)
    • Work with the engineering department to align future projects, identifying potential productivity improvements
  • IL6S / Maintenance & Reliability
    • Support and promote efforts to effectively introduce and implement maintenance redesign initiatives to extend equipment life and reliability
    • Financial planning to migrate obsolete systems into current supported hardware and software
  • Stakeholder Management
    • Focus on optimized user compliance, process performance, and customer satisfaction
    • Act as the primary technical point of contact for automation and digital transformation, addressing issues and ensuring project satisfaction
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and vendors to ensure projects meet quality standards and expectations

Qualifications:

  • Experience & Industry Background
    • Minimum 5 years of experience in automation engineering, preferably in food manufacturing environments
    • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams
    • Experience working with unions
    • Proficient in analyzing problems based on data
  • Automation & Controls Expertise
    • Expertise with Allen Bradley PLC systems (RS Logix 5000, Studio 5000)
    • Expertise in Ethernet/IP, SCADA, DCS (preferably Plant PAX), and Ilott
    • Strong knowledge of IoT/Industry 4.0 and cybersecurity technologies
    • Proficiency with industrial communication networks: Primary Ethernet, DH+, RIO, and ControlNet
    • Understanding of Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and server/client systems
  • Electrical & Instrumentation Knowledge
    • Strong background in electrical engineering principles, including motor control, sensors, actuators, and instrumentation used in process control
    • Experience with industrial power and control circuits and industrial instrumentation
    • Ability to read and understand schematics and electrical drawings
    • Knowledge of industrial control systems and safety standards (NEC, IEC, UL)
  • Project Management & Communication
    • Proficiency with project management software (MS Project)
    • Strong background in project management, including budgeting, resource allocation, and timeline management
    • Proficient troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in complex automation systems
    • Ability to work with minimal supervision and function effectively in a highly demanding environment
    • Ability to interact effectively with outside vendors, production operators, team leads, and maintenance trades

Education / Certifications:

Bachelor鈥檚 degree in engineering (Mechatronic, Electronic, Electrical, or Automation).

Salary and Benefits:

The base salary range for this position is $122,000 to $167,750; the exact salary depends on several factors such as experience, skills, education and location. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for participation in a highly competitive bonus program with possibility for overachievement based on performance and company results.
