Job Description

Dewberry has an opportunity for an experienced structural (bridge) engineer to serve as a Senior Structural (Bridge) Project Manager within our transportation engineering business unit in any of our Virginia offices. This position provides an excellent career opportunity for an enthusiastic and talented individual to work with a team of professionals located throughout Virginia and Maryland. The selected person will be responsible for leading and mentoring design teams that perform structural calculations, preparing design and contract documents (including reports, engineer’s estimates and construction specifications), reviewing shop drawings, scheduling bridge safety inspections, and providing technical support during construction. Projects include design and design-build projects that encompass new and replacement bridges, bridge widenings, bridge rehabilitation, and other transportation related structures. Typical clients include local, state, and federal agencies as well as private owners in the transportation market.

Responsibilities

  • Leading structural engineering staff during pursuit and delivery of transportation projects.
  • Plans, schedules, or coordinates the preparation of engineering documents and activities for multiple structural projects.
  • Coordinates with clients, subconsultants, and design-build contractors.
  • Manages project budgets and schedules.
  • Contributes to the business development of the department’s workload.
  • Participates in personnel actions, hiring, and performance reviews

Required Skills & Required Experience

  • BS in Civil Engineering with 15+ years of bridge engineering and project management.
  • MS Degree in Structural Engineering preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) in VA required, PE in MD desired.
  • Ability to obtain Professional Engineer licenses in other states as needed.
  • Experience as a Senior PM with VDOT and/or MDOT SHA.
  • Desing-build experience is a plus.
  • Rail bridge design and highway bridge rehabilitation experience are desirable.
  • Experience writing winning technical proposals and leading successful client interviews.
  • Strong people skills and oral/written communications skills.
