Description

OVERALL SUMMARY:

Responsible for supporting nursing and medical staff in administrating care to patients. Functions cooperatively with physicians and staff exhibiting teamwork characteristics. Reports to the Clinic Lead Nurse (LPN/RN) for daily assignments and follows instructions as directed by the Clinical Administrator.


PAY

$18.50 - $26.00/hour.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Coordinate and prioritize tasks, maintaining daily flow of the unit in a complex, rapidly changing environment
  • Effectively manages various clerical tasks, such as assisting with order processing, stocking and other duties as assigned
  • Accurately obtains vital signs as indicated and documents in computer.
  • Observes universal precautions.
  • Refers situations beyond ability or function to proper person.
  • Participates in QA/Safety Program.
  • Assists with maintaining adequate inventory of supplies.
  • Assists with housekeeping responsibilities as directed by Clinic Nursing Staff.
  • Informs Clinic Nursing staff when leaving for break, lunch or for the day.
  • Reinforces education to patients and places patient at ease and offers reassurance as needed.
  • Performs other tasks and duties as directed by the Clinical Administrator or physician which are within their legal limitation.
  • Seeks educational opportunities and accepts responsibilities for own professional growth and development. Participates with in service opportunities and staff meetings.
  • Must maintain patient right to privacy by not discussing privileged information outside the work area or within hearing range of visitors, family or other patients.
  • Keeping examining rooms clean, neat and stocked.
  • Cleans rooms after each patient and leaves ready for next patient.
  • Prepares patient as requested by providers according to type of exam.
  • Assists with answering the phone when necessary.
  • Knowledgeable of potential exposure to hazardous materials (i.e., patient body fluids and disinfectant chemicals).

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certification in Illinois as a medical assistant
  • Effective, oral, written and reading communication skills
  • Displays a primary interest in giving good patient care and maintaining standards of courtesy and friendliness to co-workers.
  • Maintains Basic Cardiac Life Support certification.
  • Able to maintain and comply with patient confidentiality and integrity policy on all matters.
  • Knowledge of computers helpful and preferred.

  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to help lift, turn, roll, push, and pull equipment/patients for proper positioning during procedures and transportation from one area to the other as necessary

Exposure to blood borne pathogens requiring the use of universal precautions and/or personal protective equipment.
