Summary

  • This is a 3-month contract role with a local authority, offering a rate of £42 per hour via an umbrella company. The Assistant Team Manager will play a crucial role in leading and supporting a team of Social Workers to deliver exceptional safeguarding and support services for children, young people, and their families. The position involves ensuring statutory duties are met, promoting best practices, and achieving positive outcomes through effective supervision, leadership, decision-making, and collaboration with partners.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Team Manager in overseeing the daily operations and management of the team.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and professional support to Social Workers, Newly Qualified Social Workers (NQSWs), and other team members.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop staff to maintain high standards of practice and professional growth.
  • Foster a positive team culture that promotes learning, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Act as a deputy for the Team Manager when necessary.
  • Oversee a caseload of children and families, ensuring timely and effective interventions.
  • Manage a limited number of complex and high-risk cases, offering direct support as needed.
  • Ensure assessments, plans, and interventions are child-focused, evidence-based, and outcome-oriented.
  • Support staff in making appropriate threshold decisions and managing risks effectively.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory guidance, legislation, and local safeguarding procedures.

Requirements:

  • Significant post-qualified experience in Children's Social Care.
  • Experience managing complex safeguarding and child protection cases.
  • Experience in supervising, supporting, or mentoring Social Workers and newly qualified staff.
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation, policies, and procedures.
  • Experience working within Child Protection, Children in Need, and Looked After Children services.
Essential Qualifications

  • Social Work qualification (Degree, Diploma, or equivalent).
  • Registration with Social Work England.
  • Evidence of ongoing Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
