Position Summary

The Vehicle Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and overhauling company-owned fleet vehicles and equipment, including light-duty vehicles, heavy-duty trucks, tank trucks, tractors, trailers, and related equipment. This role ensures fleet safety, reliability, and compliance with DOT and FMCSA regulations while minimizing vehicle downtime.

Key Responsibilities

Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and fuel system issues through inspection, testing, and road evaluation.
Repair, rebuild, or replace engines, transmissions, differentials, braking systems, suspension, exhaust, cooling, and fuel systems.
Troubleshoot and repair diesel and gasoline fuel injection systems, electrical wiring, lighting, ignition, starters, alternators, and batteries.
Perform scheduled preventive maintenance in accordance with company PM programs.
Respond to road service calls and perform on-site repairs or coordinate vehicle recovery.
Safely remove, repair, and replace heavy truck tires (up to 125 lbs).
Complete accurate maintenance records, repair documentation, and DOT-required paperwork.
Perform all work in compliance with FMCSA, DOT, and Hazardous Materials Safety Regulations.

Qualifications

2–4 years of fleet, diesel, or automotive mechanic experience, or equivalent training.
Valid CDL or ability to obtain CDL with required endorsements (hazmat/tank). Strong diagnostic, troubleshooting, and mechanical repair skills.
Working knowledge of DOT and FMCSA compliance requirements.
Safe driving record.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

Ability to lift and maneuver parts and tires up to 125 lbs.
Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb, and work under vehicles.
Exposure to noise, vibration, fumes, chemicals, electrical hazards, wet conditions, heat, and outdoor weather.
