Position

SAS has an opening for a Transportation Manager. The individual in this role is responsible for managing the company’s fleet of vehicles and for overseeing a team of drivers to transport company goods efficiently. Duties include creating work schedules and transportation routes for drivers to pick up and deliver goods to the correct location, managing a budget for vehicle repairs and replacements and ensuring drivers receive proper training to uphold safe driving standards. 

Responsibilities

  • Scheduling regular maintenance on all vehicles.
  • Ordering urgent or emergency repairs as needed.
  • Establishing efficient routes and transportation schedules.
  • Coordinating Drivers and on-staff maintenance.
  • Managing vehicle licenses and registrations.
  • Ensuring all drivers have proper licenses and up-to-date training.
  • Monitoring Drivers to ensure adherence to schedules and proper driving practices.
  • Providing reports to management on budgeting, schedules, and maintenance.
  • Developing methods to decrease cost and improve efficiencies. 
  • Maintain Asset Data Base of all company owned vehicles, lease vehicles and trailers, and any rental vehicles exceeding 30 days of usage. 
  • Be the point of contact with SAS’ insurance company (currently Frost) to make sure insurance coverage is current on all vehicles and trailers. 
  • Inform the SAS’ insurance company when vehicles are to be removed from the policy to include lease and rental returns. 
  • Oversee in-house minor repairs to include oil changes (handled by CDL drivers). 
  • Obtain multiple quotes for extensive repairs from outside vendors. 
  • Provide support to SAS senior leadership management and vehicles as needed and within capabilities 
  • Maintain pool cars to include washing and refueling. 
  • Maintain the antique display cars to include washing, cleaning, and moving them as required.
  • Approve payment of all invoices related to repairs and maintenance of the Transportation Shop to include payments for lease invoices for trailers, tractors, and trucks.
  • Coordinate and communicate the trucking schedule between San Antonio and Del Rio. 

 Qualifications

  • Great written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent leadership skills, including goal setting, motivation and training.
  • Expert knowledge of best driving, delivery, vehicle maintenance and other industry practices.
  • Basic math and data analysis skills.
  • Familiarity with transportation scheduling and management software.
  • Understanding of basic vehicle mechanics, including the ability to identify when major repairs are needed.
  • Ability to set and monitor a budget.
  • Good problem-solving, critical thinking and decision-making skills.
  • Exceptional organization, time management and multitasking abilities.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Be able to work under pressure at times to handle a wide variety of activities and demands while maintaining a realistic balance among multiple priorities.

Preferred 

  • Some college coursework
  • Fluency in Spanish with the ability to communicate clearly.
