Fuse is looking for a mid-level Mechanical Engineer to join our team onsite in San Diego, CA. We’re looking for a mechanical engineer that can balance discipline and attention to detail with outside-the-box thinking and an innovative problem-solving attitude. Must be a pragmatic and mission-driven self-starter. Apply your analytical and detail-oriented mindset to develop, own, and improve Fuse’s products for U.S. defense agencies that improve the sharing of information among warfighters distributed throughout airborne, maritime, and ground environments. Through a collaborative effort with the Electrical, Systems, and Production teams, this role will support Fuse Engineering to build communications, networking, and computing solutions for the warfighter. This is a mid-level role with great potential for growth.
Warfighter-focused design and development is at the heart of Fuse processes. Throughout Fuse development our experienced team applies the best practices of commercial design-thinking, coupled to the DoD systems engineering framework. The coupling of commercially proven design with rigorous systems engineering gives Fuse an ability to rapidly design, develop and field solutions well inside of typical military design cycles. Fuse rapidly innovates, putting creative concepts into action and refining those concepts through hands-on testing, user evaluation, and iterations.
What you'll do:
- Implement mechanical systems, equipment, and packages for customers and internal programs that meet requirements and expectationsÂ
- Support, design, and develop dynamic tactical communications systems
- Mechanical design and development for sustaining engineering of our flagship and existing products including dynamic tactical communications systemsÂ
- Perform trade studies and participate in equipment selectionÂ
- Generate, review, and maintain mechanical drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), work instructions, and releasing of mechanical printsÂ
- Interact with vendors to quote and produce mechanical parts and assembliesÂ
- Participate in engineering/design reviewsÂ
- Conduct feasibility studies and testing on new and modified designsÂ
- Support prototype and first article hardware buildsÂ
- Support integration between hardware, software, and network systemsÂ
- Conduct and support test planning, execution, and post-event reportingÂ
- Interpret and research system interface documents in support of designing/defining/documenting how systems will interconnectÂ
- Translate customer requirements into subsystem and system specificationsÂ
- Provide on-site and distance operational supportÂ
- Limited Travel may be requiredÂ
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering and 4+ years of experienceÂ
- Familiarity with Engineering Drawing Practices Y14.100 and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing Y14.5Â
- Expert level of capability with Solidworks software including experience with eDrawings and Model Based Definition (MBD) of products and assemblies Y14.41Â
- Experience with fabrication methods for sheet metal and machined parts with part finishing (powder coat, anodize, Alodine, and plating)Â
- Understanding of additive manufacturing processes and fabrication methods for sheet metal and machined parts Â
- Understanding of cable routing and its application in enclosuresÂ
- Must be a nimble self-starter who is excited about technology and can think out of the box and suggest powerful new ideasÂ
- Experience working with production personnel and creating assembly instructionsÂ
- Strong technical, interpersonal, written and verbal skillsÂ
- Ability to operate effectively in a team environment as well as independentlyÂ
- Demonstrate ownership and accountability of product designsÂ
- Ability to obtain US SECRET ClearanceÂ

Nice to have:

- Experience in design for TEMPEST, EMI MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-810 (Environmental), MIL-HDBK-516 (Air Worthiness), ARINC 404, and/or ARINC 600 requirementsÂ
- Basic Electrical Engineering knowledge including manufacturing processes for Circuit Card Assemblies and grounding strategiesÂ
- Basic understanding of Configuration Management practices with experience with Solidworks PDMÂ Â
- Experience with Solidworks Simulation analysis (or similar software) to include Structural Static/Fatigue, Thermal (Conduction and Convection) and Computational Flow/Fluid Dynamics (CFD)Â
- Experience in designing routing cable assemblies using software-based tools such as Solidworks Electrical 3D and Schematics.
- Experience in system design, testing, and analysisÂ
- Experience in agile, professional software development environments utilizing revision control, test driven development and continuous integrationÂ
- Active Secret ClearanceÂ

Salary: $95,000 - $130,000
