Collection System Worker

Works outdoors under the direction of Lead Workers; performs manual labor and semi-skilled work in operating and repairing sewer lines using mechanical and hydraulic equipment.  The job also involves operating computer-aided underground video equipment.     

EXAMPLES OF JOB DUTIES:

Assist in the repair and maintenance of manholes and pipes using specialized equipment, including hydro cleaning and vacuuming; assist in television inspection of sewer lines; inspect sewer collection lines for stoppages or damage; perform emergency work on sewer lines and appurtenances; set up traffic safety devices and safely direct traffic around work sites; other related duties as assigned. 

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Any combination of education and experience, which would provide the required knowledge and abilities, is qualifying.

Two years of general experience in the operation and/or maintenance of mechanical equipment and/or underground pipeline construction, or two years as a member of a pipe cleaning crew, and equivalent to the completion of the 12^th grade. Computer skills are highly desirable.

LICENSE, CERTIFICATION & RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a valid California driver’s license and a motor vehicle record that meets the District’s driving standards; a Class B California driver’s license within six months of appointment, subject to the requirements of the DOT regulations for random drug and alcohol testing.  

Possession of, or ability to obtain within two years of appointment, a CWEA Grade I Certificate in Collection System Maintenance.

SELECTION PROCEDURE:

All applications will be reviewed, and candidates whose qualifications most closely match the District's needs will be invited to participate in panel interviews.
