Elsewhere Entertainment is looking for a Senior Narrative Designer to join the development of a new IP.Ā

As a member of the narrative department,Ā you’llĀ create memorable characters and compelling plots as well as design and write the many types of fictional stories, dialogues, cinematics, and other texts in our game. As a member of the project,Ā you’llĀ help take the studio and our game from great to even better;Ā with a focus on inclusivity, mutual respect (for ourselves and our players), thoughtfulness, empathy, professionalism, and collaboration.Ā Ā

You’ll help us by… 

  • DevelopingĀ a new intellectual property’s foundational loreĀ 

  • CollaboratingĀ with the narrative team and other departments in creating the game’s locations,Ā characters,Ā plots, and moreĀ 

  • WritingĀ and revisingĀ gameĀ dialogueĀ and cinematic scriptsĀ 

  • TakingĀ narrative ownership of aĀ key narrativeĀ feature of the gameĀ 

  • Designing, writing, and implementingĀ all types of storytelling and in-game textĀ 

  • CraftingĀ detailed backstories for the game's locations, characters, and moreĀ 

  • BecomingĀ proficient in using the game's narrative toolĀ 

  • ProvidingĀ constructive feedback on others’ workĀ 

  • ActingĀ as a liaison to other departments, conveying the consistent narrative vision of the projectĀ 

  • AssistingĀ with character casting, and preparingĀ scripts for and attendingĀ VO and Mocap sessionsĀ 

  • MentoringĀ staff and associate narrative designersĀ Ā 

  • EnsuringĀ all tasks are completed according to given specifications andĀ agreed timelinesĀ 

  • PerformingĀ any additional narrative design responsibilities as assigned by Narrative LeadershipĀ 

You’re awesome because you have… 

  • Proven experience as a professional Narrative Designer (or some combination of applicable training and experience)Ā 

  • Demonstrable and strong skills as a writer and editorĀ 

  • The ability to collaborate and thrive as part of a creative teamĀ 

  • No problemĀ workingĀ independently;Ā are self-driven inĀ taking ownership of tasks in a highly confidential environmentĀ 

  • Creativity in problem solvingĀ andĀ a positive, respectful team-first attitudeĀ 

  • Experience pitching game narrative concepts in a clear, detailed manner, through strong written and verbal skillsĀ 

  • Organization methods andĀ theĀ capabilityĀ to meetĀ timelinesĀ 

  • Comfort withĀ self-critiqueĀ and acceptingĀ outside feedbackĀ 

  • A habit of regularly playingĀ and understandingĀ modern video gamesĀ 

Bonus points for… 

  • Experience with writing for AAA gamesĀ 

  • OneĀ or more shipped titlesĀ 

  • Experience with technical narrative design (implementation in tools, visual scripting,Ā etc)Ā 

  • Published writing (novels, short fiction, film, television, comics,Ā etc)Ā 

  • Enjoyment ofĀ playing a variety of video game genres and titlesĀ

In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is $80,800.00 - $149,400.00 Annual. These values reflect the expected base pay range of new hires across all U.S. locations. Ultimately, your specific range and offer will be based on several factors, including relevant experience, performance, and work location. Your Talent Professional can share this role’s range details for your local geography during the hiring process. In addition to a competitive base pay, employees in this role may be eligible for incentive compensation. Incentive compensation is not guaranteed. While we strive to provide competitive offers to successful candidates, new hire compensation is negotiable.
