A Day in the Life of an Oncology RN at RWPC

Your day begins by preparing the clinic for patient care—reviewing schedules, coordinating resources, and ensuring exam rooms, medications, and equipment are ready to support a seamless patient experience. As patients arrive, you partner closely with providers by rooming patients, completing assessments, taking vital signs, and gathering detailed clinical information to ensure informed, high-quality care.

Throughout the day, you collaborate with physicians and the care team to deliver comprehensive oncology care. You assist with in-office procedures, administer medications and treatments safely, perform dressing changes, and ensure all care is documented accurately in the electronic medical record. You play a key role in patient education—guiding patients and families through diagnoses, treatment plans, and self-care with compassion and clarity.

You also support care coordination by managing phone triage, facilitating insurance authorizations, and working with case managers and external partners to ensure timely access to treatments and services. Your ability to anticipate patient needs and remove barriers helps create a smooth and supportive care journey.

Between visits, you help maintain clinic flow by preparing rooms, monitoring supplies, and ensuring medications and equipment are stocked and compliant. You contribute to a safe environment by following infection control practices, participating in quality initiatives, and upholding RWPC’s commitment to excellence in patient care.

Qualifications

Education

• Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.

Experience

• Two to three years of experience in a physician office or outpatient clinic preferred.

Licensure & Certifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Nebraska without restrictions (or must obtain within 90 days if applicable).
• Compact state license accepted if residing outside Nebraska.
• American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers required upon hire.
• Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) preferred.
