Pedagogista (Reggio Emilia–Inspired School)
Pedagogical Leadership • Development • Inclusion
OUR BEGINNING SCHOOL | MOAI SCHOOL • Seattle, Washington • Full-time (35 - 40hrs/wk.), non-exempt
Join a collaborative team supporting Our Beginning School and MOAI School, serving infants through Pre-K. We seek an experienced early childhood educator who combines thoughtful supervision, mentoring, and strong expertise in child development and inclusion. Inspired by Reggio Emilia and informed by RIE, our Pedagogistas strengthen Teacher-Researchers’ professional judgment and independence.
The Opportunity
- Observe classroom life, listen closely to children and educators, and use pedagogical documentation and reflective dialogue to strengthen learning.
- Supervise and coach assigned Teacher-Researchers through classroom observation, reflective dialogue, constructive feedback, professional goal-setting, and follow-through; cultivate initiative and independent judgment.
- Contribute to educator performance evaluations and professional accountability within delegated supervisory authority, collaborating with the Pedagogical Guide and HR Manager on matters requiring formal personnel action.
- Collaborate with fellow Pedagogistas, families, the Atelierista, Hundred Languages Specialists, and external consultants as appropriate, respecting consent, confidentiality, and professional boundaries.
- Engage in ongoing professional study and consultation, including learning informed by Reggio Emilia and RIE.
Special Education, Developmental Support & Inclusion
- Bring expertise in early childhood special education, developmental differences, neurodiversity, autism, and the varied ways children communicate, participate, and learn.
- Partner with Teacher-Researchers to observe and understand developmental and behavioral needs, identify possible barriers to participation, and develop individualized, strengths-based classroom supports.
- Help educators adapt materials, routines, relationships, and environments; use thoughtful observation and documentation to evaluate what supports each child’s participation and growth.
- Collaborate respectfully with families, the Pedagogista Team, and qualified external professionals—including speech-language, occupational therapy, and developmental specialists—when additional expertise is needed.
- Strengthen educators’ ability to respond independently and compassionately to children’s needs. This is an educational leadership and supervision role, not a clinical diagnosis or therapy position.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Special Education, Education, or a closely related field required; master’s degree in one of these fields preferred.
- Substantial experience in early childhood education, including supervision or leadership of educators, mentoring, or inclusive educational practice.
- Experience supporting diverse developmental and learning needs through observation, individualized strategies, inclusive environments, and collaboration with families and specialists.
- Strong communication, documentation, reflective inquiry, and collaborative coaching skills; advanced expertise in early childhood special education, neurodiversity, or relationship-based developmental and behavioral support preferred.
- Knowledge of Reggio Emilia and RIE, or a demonstrated commitment to studying and applying both approaches; ability to strengthen Teacher-Researchers’ professional independence.
How We Define Leadership
“The purpose of pedagogical leadership is not to make oneself indispensable, but to develop the knowledge, confidence, and professional independence of others.”
Pedagogistas lead by example. Consistent compliance with school policies, professional accountability, and respect for colleagues are essential to this role. A Pedagogista’s effectiveness is reflected in the growth, initiative, and independent judgment of the educators they guide.
