Position SummaryĀ 

GEICO is seeking an experiencedĀ Software EngineerĀ who is passionate about buildingĀ high-performance, maintainable, and resilient platforms and applications. This role is integral to our ongoing transformation—moving from a traditional IT model to anĀ engineering-drivenĀ organization that emphasizes reliability, scalability, and automation.Ā 

Position DescriptionĀ 

Site Reliability Engineering (SRE)Ā blends software engineering and systems administration to design, develop, and manage large-scale,Ā highly available, fault-tolerantĀ systems. SRE ensures that GEICO’s services—both internal and customer-facing—meetĀ reliability, uptime, and performanceĀ standards while enablingĀ rapid iteration and continuous improvement.Ā 

As anĀ SRE at GEICO, you will tackle the unique challenges ofĀ operating at scale,Ā leveragingĀ expertiseĀ inĀ codingĀ and large-scale system design. You will alsoĀ participateĀ inĀ on-call rotations, providingĀ incident response, troubleshooting, and post-mortem analysisĀ to improve system reliability andĀ minimize operational impact.Ā

Position ResponsibilitiesĀ 

As aĀ Senior Staff Engineer, you will:Ā 

  • Develop and drive the overall strategyĀ for our enterprise Change and ApprovalĀ Management, aligningĀ it with the organization's business goals andĀ objectivesĀ 

  • Lead technical initiativesĀ across multiple teams, providingĀ strategic and technical guidance.Ā 

  • Utilize programming languages likeĀ Go, Python, Java, and work withĀ SQL/NoSQL databases.Ā 

  • Work withĀ container orchestration toolsĀ such asĀ Docker, Kubernetes, and OpenStack.Ā 

  • Architect and developĀ cloud-nativeĀ applications usingĀ Azure services.Ā 

  • Collaborate withĀ product managers, engineering teams, and stakeholdersĀ to solve complex challenges.Ā 

  • Ensure theĀ quality, performance, and usabilityĀ of engineering solutions.Ā 

  • Serve as aĀ mentor and thought leader, coachingĀ engineersĀ and influencing executives.Ā 

  • Continuously improve processes, adoptĀ best practices, and drive operational efficiency.Ā 

  • Support andĀ participateĀ inĀ On Call rotations,Ā respondĀ to incidents, diagnosing production issues, and conductingĀ post-incident reviewsĀ to improve system reliability.Ā 

QualificationsĀ 

  • ExpertiseĀ in at least two modern programming languages (Go, Python, Java, C, C++) and object-oriented design.Ā 

  • StrongĀ ownership and accountabilityĀ with excellent communication and collaboration skills.Ā 

  • Hands-on experience inĀ incident response, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.Ā 

  • Experience managingĀ distributed systemsĀ inĀ public, private, or hybrid cloud environments.Ā 

  • Experience withĀ monitoring, logging, and observabilityĀ tools (Prometheus, Grafana,Ā OpenTelemetry, Loki).Ā 

  • Experience withĀ CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and cloud-based deployments.Ā 

  • Ability toĀ operateĀ in aĀ fast-paced, high-scaleĀ environment with aĀ problem-solving mindset.Ā 

ExperienceĀ 

  • 10+ years of professional experience in software development, platform architecture, and infrastructure management.Ā 

  • 8+ years of experience as either a SRE or DevOps team memberĀ 

  • 8+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or hybrid cloud environments.Ā 

  • 8+ years of experience with open-source frameworks.Ā 

  • 5+ years of experience with system architecture and design.Ā 

  • 5+ years of experience of being in anĀ OnCallĀ rotationĀ 

EducationĀ 

  • Bachelor's degree inĀ Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent work experience.Ā

Annual Salary

$130,000.00 - $260,000.00

The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
