This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

As part of aĀ hardworking team ofĀ engineers,Ā you willĀ work with various subsystem stakeholders to produce and manage the software architectureĀ forĀ the Blue TransporterĀ spacecraftĀ within the Lunar Permanence business unit. YouĀ and yourĀ teammatesĀ will be tasked with ensuring mission success of the lunar vehicles’ safety-critical, performant flight software. You will proactively engage withĀ the leads and engineersĀ of different subsystems, including both software and hardware.Ā You willĀ guide the software team’s technical decisions using the input ofĀ a set of stakeholders and provide the rationale behind these decisions.Ā You will draft, review, revise, and publish documents that outline these decisions and provide a credibleĀ plan for implementing flight software that completes the Lunar Permanence missionĀ objectives.Ā You willĀ report to theĀ Flight Software Integrated Product Lead.Ā A strong applicant willĀ demonstrateĀ an ability to understand theĀ needs ofĀ ourĀ stakeholders andĀ simultaneouslyĀ represent the capabilities ofĀ ourĀ Flight Software team well.Ā This attribute is particularly important to ensure thatĀ our team avoidsĀ over-promising and under-delivering.Ā 

YouĀ will work directly with NASA and our National Team Partners as part of the Human Landing System (HLS) Sustaining Lunar Development (SLD) program.Ā YouĀ will play a key role inĀ developing the Lunar Transportation system that will return humans to the Moon andĀ extendĀ human presence permanently beyond the bounds of Earth.Ā Ā

Qualifications:Ā 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering,Ā aeronautics,Ā or a related field with a minimum ofĀ 6Ā years of relevant experience, orĀ aĀ master’sĀ degreeĀ or a PhD degreeĀ with a minimum ofĀ 3Ā years of relevant experienceĀ 

  • PriorĀ experience working in spaceflight or other safety-criticalĀ industriesĀ 

  • PriorĀ experienceĀ inĀ embedded systemsĀ software engineeringĀ 

  • ProficiencyĀ inĀ writing requirements and usingĀ JamaĀ orĀ aĀ similarĀ toolĀ 

  • Experience with Jira or a similar activity management toolĀ 

  • Excellent written and spoken communication skillsĀ 

  • Prior experience usingĀ Generative AI tools for programming and process improvementĀ

Desired:Ā 

  • Experience with NPR 7150, DO-178,Ā or other similar standardsĀ 

  • Experience withĀ the agileĀ methodologyĀ 

  • Experience with C, C++, Rust, or other embedded programming languagesĀ 

  • Experience with cFS or other flight software frameworksĀ 

  • Experience withĀ orbital vehicles or in-space systemsĀ

CO applicants is $150,931.00 - $211,303.05 WA applicants is $164,652.00 - $230,512.80

  • Required for Certain Job Profiles: Drivers who operate Commercial Motor Vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) or combination of power unit and trailer that meets or exceeds 10,001 lbs. and/or transports placardable amounts of hazardous materials by ground in any vehicle on a public road while in commerce, may be subject to additional Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations including: Driver Qualification Files, Medical Certification (obtained before onboarding), Road Test, Hours of Service, Drug and Alcohol Testing (CDL drivers only), vehicle inspection requirements, CDL requirements (if applicable) and hazardous materials transportation/shipping training.

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
