Summary: Plan, coordinate, and direct the company’s estimating function.

Essential Functions may include, but are not limited to:

  1. Lead the estimating function, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
  2. Research, evaluate, and determine projects to bid that support the company’s strategic goals.
  3. Research historical data (e.g. purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity reports) and compile project reference information for estimates. 
  4. Prepare and submit thorough, accurate, and timely cost estimates.
  5. Establish and implement bid / estimate processes and procedures.
  6. Review all final estimate packages to ensure accuracy and completeness prior to submittal.
  7. Provide technical assistance in negotiating contracts and change orders.
  8. Facilitate handover meetings to project managers. 
  9. Maintain files of working documents and quotations to support estimation figures. 
  10. Collaborate with project managers and other internal stakeholders. 

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field. Candidates with significant directly related experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  2. At least seven years of construction estimating experience with at least four years of experience estimating similar highway projects.
  3. Valid Texas driver license.

Preferred Qualifications and Competencies:

  1. Advanced knowledge and expertise in using construction estimating software preferable B2W or HCSS. 
  2. Experience and familiarity with TxDot.

Mobile Equipment:

This position requires the use of a pool vehicle or the employee’s personal vehicle, as designated by the Company President.

Required Competencies:

  1. Advanced knowledge of estimating techniques, cost control, and material properties.
  2. Thorough knowledge of organizational elements that impact estimating, estimating strategies and techniques, and construction contracts.
  3. Extensive knowledge of risk assessment, analysis, and mitigation techniques.
  4. Excellent organizational, leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  5. Ability to accurately calculate quantities using basic geometry and trigonometry.
  6. Ability to work in and make conversions to Metric System.
  7. Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and construction documents.
  8. Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  9. Ability to navigate and utilize construction estimating software.
  10. Ability to drive a motor vehicle and travel throughout Texas.
  11. Demonstrated commitment to completing work accurately, efficiently, and timely.

Working Environment:

Work is performed primarily indoors, sitting and performing work using a computer for long periods of time with occasional driving of motor vehicles.

Physical Demands:

  • Sitting for up to eight (8) hours per day.
  • Lifting and / or exerting force up to 20 pounds occasionally and 5 pounds frequently. 
  • Occasional walking, bending, squatting, stooping, twisting, kneeling, reaching, and crouching.
  • Visual acuity to drive a motor vehicle, read printed and electronic documents, and to distinguish colors used in blueprints and engineering drawings.
  • Hearing capacity to receive, perceive, and react to common office environment noises.
  • Manual dexterity to manipulate, handle, and feel.
