Shop Helper / Mechanic-in-Training
Dan-Kel Concrete Cutting Specialists | Longs, SC | Full-Time
Start Your Career in the Mechanic Trade
Dan-Kel is looking for a dependable, motivated Shop Helper / Mechanic-in-Training to join our Longs maintenance shop.
You don't need to be a mechanic. We're looking for someone mechanically inclined who wants an opportunity to learn the trade and is willing to start with the fundamentals.
You'll work alongside an experienced Shop Foreman who can teach you as your skills develop. However, training won't fill every hour of the day. We need someone who can stay productive without constant supervision and take ownership of the everyday work that keeps a repair shop running.
What You'll Do
•    Keep the shop, bays, tools, parts areas, and equipment clean and organized.
•    Pressure wash and clean trucks, equipment, components, and work areas.
•    Stage tools, parts, and equipment for upcoming repairs and field needs.
•    Assist with parts, supplies, and inventory.
•    Regularly drive company vehicles to pick up parts and supplies, transfer equipment, and deliver items to Dan-Kel jobsites and other locations as needed.
•    Help prepare equipment for our field Operators.
•    Perform basic maintenance and service work as trained and authorized.
•    Assist the Shop Foreman with inspections and repairs as your skills develop.
•    Identify and communicate visible damage, leaks, missing items, or other concerns.
•    Take initiative with routine shop tasks when the Shop Foreman is focused elsewhere.
What We're Looking For
How you work matters as much as what you already know.
The right person:
•    Takes pride in keeping things clean and organized.
•    Notices what needs attention and gets after it.
•    Is comfortable doing routine work like cleaning, organizing, and pressure washing.
•    Can work independently without needing constant direction.
•    Shows up reliably and ready to work.
•    Follows instructions and pays attention to details.
•    Accepts coaching and isn't afraid to ask questions.
•    Takes care of tools and equipment.
•    Has a genuine interest in developing into a mechanic.
What You'll Have the Opportunity to Learn
As you demonstrate reliability and ability, you'll have opportunities to develop skills in preventive maintenance, diesel and gas equipment, electrical systems, hydraulics, inspections, troubleshooting, and mechanical repair.
Minimum Qualifications
•    Valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and confidence operating company vehicles for local parts runs, deliveries, and jobsite support.
•    Ability to perform physical shop work, including standing, bending, kneeling, and lifting approximately 50 lbs.
•    Willingness to work in an active repair-shop environment.
•    Dependable attendance and a willingness to learn.
•    Previous mechanical experience is helpful but not required.
Why Dan-Kel?
This is an opportunity to get your foot in the door of the mechanic trade and learn from experienced people while making a real contribution from day one.
You don't need to come to us as a mechanic.
You do need to come ready to work, learn, and take pride in doing the small things right.
