Registered Nurse (RN) – Med/Surg / ICU | Harbor Rise (Inpatient Rehab)

Nexus Children’s Hospital – Shenandoah, TX

About Us

Nexus Children’s Hospital – Shenandoah provides specialized inpatient care for children recovering from complex medical conditions, including traumatic brain injuries (TBI) and spinal cord injuries.

Our Harbor Rise Program delivers a structured, interdisciplinary rehabilitation environment focused on medical stability, functional recovery, and long-term outcomes—because at Nexus, we’re mending minds.

Position Summary

We are seeking Med/Surg and ICU-experienced Registered Nurses to join our Harbor Rise inpatient rehabilitation program, supporting pediatric patients recovering from life-altering neurological injuries.

As part of our continued growth, we are implementing a unit-based care model, allowing nurses to align to specific patient populations and clinical environments. This structure promotes targeted education, stronger team consistency, and improved patient outcomes.

This role is ideal for nurses who want to apply their acute care skillset in a more structured, recovery-focused setting, where they can see long-term patient progress.

Unit-Based Care Model (What This Means for You)

  • Assigned to a consistent unit/clinical area rather than rotating across all patient types
  • Opportunity to build deeper expertise in neuro rehab and complex medical care
  • More predictable workflows and team collaboration
  • Focused training and development aligned to your unit

What Makes This Role Different

  • Transition from high-turnover acute care to a progress-driven rehab environment
  • Work with patients recovering from TBI, spinal cord injuries, and neurological conditions
  • Be part of a highly collaborative interdisciplinary team (therapy, neuro, behavioral health)
  • See the direct impact of your care over time, not just stabilization and discharge

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to medically complex pediatric patients
  • Monitor and manage patients transitioning from acute care to rehabilitation
  • Support neurological recovery and functional progress
  • Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and behavioral health teams
  • Educate patients and families throughout the recovery journey

Qualifications

  • Active RN license (Texas)
  • Required: Med/Surg or ICU experience
  • Pediatric, rehab, or neuro experience preferred
  • Strong clinical judgment and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work within a structured, unit-based care environment

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • ICU nurses seeking a more sustainable, lower-burnout environment
  • Med/Surg nurses with strong clinical fundamentals
  • Nurses interested in neurological recovery and long-term patient outcomes
  • Clinicians who value consistency, team alignment, and unit ownership over constant floating
