Assistant Director of Recreational Services
Augustana University (SD) invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Recreational Services. Reporting to the Director of Recreational Services, this full-time position is responsible for overseeing the university's intramural sports program, supervising and mentoring student employees, and supporting recreational programming and facility operations.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills while promoting student engagement, wellness and leadership development. This position supports the department's mission of Attracting People and Building Leaders by creating inclusive recreational opportunities and meaningful experiences for the Augustana community.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Direct and oversee the intramural sports program, including scheduling, staffing, officiating and special events.
Recruit, train, supervise and mentor student employees, supporting the leadership development of more than 100 recreational services student staff.
Coordinate marketing and promotional efforts to increase student participation through campus events, social media and other communication channels.
Build relationships with students, faculty, staff and campus departments to enhance recreational programming.
Assist with recreational facility operations, program planning, evaluation and departmental initiatives.
Provide oversight of student office staff, projects and daily operations.
Assist with staffing and coordination of the summer Kids Rec Camp.
Promote a safe, welcoming and inclusive recreational environment.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required.
American Red Cross First Aid, CPR and AED certification.
Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated leadership, supervisory, coaching and mentoring abilities.
Experience with computer applications, marketing, website management and social media.
Understanding of student development and leadership development.
Commitment to working with students within a private, church-related university environment.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications:
Degree emphasis in recreation, sport administration or a related field.
Experience in intramural program management, sports officiating or scheduling.
Interacting with students, faculty and leadership with different backgrounds and points of view and a deep appreciation of and respect for academic values and culture must be a top value of the candidate.
