Greater Seacoast Community Health is seeking a compassionate and encouraging Breastfeeding Peer Counselor to join our WIC team. This role provides peer support, education, and encouragement to pregnant and breastfeeding mothers throughout our community.

As a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor, you will become a trusted source of support for mothers navigating one of the most important and emotional stages of parenthood.

This position is ideal for someone who has personal breastfeeding experience and is passionate about helping other mothers feel supported, confident, and successful in their breastfeeding journey.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide breastfeeding encouragement, education, and emotional support to WIC participants 
  • Maintain contact with pregnant and breastfeeding mothers through phone calls and follow-ups 
  • Share practical breastfeeding experiences and guidance 
  • Work collaboratively with WIC staff and healthcare providers 
  • Refer families to appropriate resources when needed 
  • Support community outreach and breastfeeding awareness efforts 

✅ Minimum Qualifications (Required)

  • High school diploma or equivalent 
  • Personal experience successfully breastfeeding at least one child 
  • Previous participation in or involvement with the WIC program Required
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Compassionate, supportive, and professional approach 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality 
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel between WIC sites 
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment 

⭐ Preferred

  • Experience mentoring, coaching, or supporting others 
  • Interest in maternal and child health
