Job Summary

Electric Forklift Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing battery-powered lift trucks, pallet jacks, and related warehouse equipment. They troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues, replace worn parts, and perform preventive maintenance to ensure equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with OSHA

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnostics: Use computer-based diagnostic tools, multimeters, and wiring schematics to trace and troubleshoot electrical faults, error codes, and motor failures.
  • Preventive Maintenance (PM): Conduct scheduled inspections to lubricate moving parts, test battery health, and catch potential safety hazards before they cause equipment downtime.
  • Component Repair: Replace or rebuild defective electrical and mechanical components, including AC/DC motors, controllers, contactors, wiring harnesses, hydraulic pumps, and braking systems.
  • Battery Maintenance: Service, water, and test lead-acid and lithium-ion forklift batteries and chargers to ensure maximum charge retention.
  • Documentation: Prepare and submit accurate work orders, labor logs, and parts requests to maintain proper inventory and repair histories.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: A High School Diploma or GED is generally required. Technical school training or certification in automotive mechanics, industrial electrical systems, or hydraulics is highly preferred.
  • Experience: 1 to 3+ years of professional mechanical or electrical troubleshooting experience (on industrial equipment, automotive repair, or heavy machinery).
  • Technical Skills: Strong understanding of DC and AC electric motor principles, relay logic, and the ability to read complex electrical and hydraulic schematics.
  • Physical Demands: Must be able to stand for long periods, crouch, reach, and frequently lift up to 50–75 lbs.
  • Certifications: Valid state driver’s license with a clean record is often required to operate company service vans. Equipment-specific manufacturer certifications are a major plus.
