SUMMARY:

 

The Product Engineer evaluates and resolves engineering production problems related to manufacturing, design, test, quality and material engineering; analyzes engineering specifications and drawings; confers with quality, material, manufacturing and subcontractors to provide and obtain technical information; investigates reports of defective, damaged or malfunctioning parts, assemblies, equipment or systems; and reviews production schedules and orders. Examines, measures, inspects or tests defective parts for conformance. Evaluates findings to formulate corrective actions.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Provide technical solutions to engineering tasks using sound engineering practices; communicate and work within a team to meet contractual commitments; follow through on work to complete projects on time.

 

Interprets engineering drawings and facilitates correction of errors or design improvement through change request process and if needed, submits change request to customer for approval.

 

Investigates reports of defective, damaged, or malfunctioning parts, assemblies, equipment, or systems to determine nature and scope of problem as well as to formulate corrective actions and coordinates implementation of RCCA.

 

Examines, measures, inspects, or tests defective part for conformance to engineering design drawings, using precision measuring and testing instruments, devices, and equipment

 

Serves as member of material review board to determine disposition of defective or damaged parts – MRB.

 

Responds to Contract’s request for quotation, provides accurate estimate of efforts and recommendations.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Ability to analyze engineering specifications and drawings and confer with quality material, manufacturing and suppliers to provide and obtain technical information.

 

Ability to investigate reports of defective, damaged or malfunctioning parts, assemblies, equipment or systems; and reviews production schedules and orders. Includes examining, measuring, inspecting or testing defective parts for conformance.

 

Ability to interface with project engineering, manufacturing engineering and functional leads.

 

Experience with CAD software.

Requires U.S. Citizenship.

Must be eligible to receive a security clearance.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

 

Requires a bachelor’s degree in an engineering field.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, write and speak English and interpret documents such as technical specifications, test procedures, operating and maintenance instructions.  Must be able to write routine reports and correspondence clearly and accurately.  The position also requires the ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

College level calculus in an engineering major.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The position is a mixture of office and field work either on site at VACCO or at outside test facilities that may be conducted in hot or cold conditions.  There may be occasional light lifting of equipment up to 50 lbs. 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Majority of work is performed in a typical office environment with no major sources of discomfort with occasional hardware testing using high pressure gases, electrical equipment and other machinery.
