OVERVIEW


The RN Circulator is responsible for the direct and indirect provision of safe, professional nursing care of the patients in the operating room. The nurse is accountable for ongoing evaluation and documentation of all components of care delivered to patients within the perioperative and outpatient environment utilizing the nursing process. 


SKILLS, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing 

  • Current and active unencumbered Registered Nurse license in the state of Georgia

  • Current surgical experience (within past 3 years) 

  • Certified, or willing to certify, in BLS  


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include, but not limited to): 

  • Performs assignments as directed by the Administrator

  • Maintains a calm, professional, and patient-centered environment

  • Serves as a liaison between patients, families, physicians, and staff to support coordinated care

  • Circulates surgical procedures in accordance with established standards

  • Ensures operating rooms are properly prepared, clean, and safe for all procedures

  • Gathers and prepares necessary supplies and equipment for surgical cases

  • Provides patient care, including positioning, transport, and monitoring, while maintaining privacy and safety

  • Follows infection control standards and all facility policies and procedures

  • Accurately documents patient care and communicates effectively with the surgical team

  • Supervises non-licensed personnel as assigned

Inventory & Case Support:

  • Maintains operating room inventory and ensures supplies are available for scheduled procedures

  • Communicates supply needs proactively to avoid case delays

  • Coordinates with vendors and sales representatives as needed for implants, equipment, and specialty items

  • Participates in quality improvement and maintains compliance with organizational standards

  • Completes required education, competencies, and training

  • Demonstrates professionalism, accountability, and adaptability in a fast-paced environment

  • Performs other duties as assigned

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Is subject to frequent interruptions

  • Is involved with patients, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances

  • May be subject to hostile upset patients, family members, personnel, and visitors

  • May need to work beyond normal working hours, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary

  • Inherent potential for contact with blood, body fluids or tissues
