At Tate & Lyle, safety is more than a priority. It is a core value. We are seeking an experienced and passionate EHS Manager to lead Environmental, Health, and Safety initiatives at our Sycamore, Illinois manufacturing facility.

This role is ideal for a hands-on safety professional who thrives in a manufacturing environment, enjoys building strong partnerships across all levels of an organization, and is committed to developing a world-class safety culture. The successful candidate will spend significant time on the plant floor coaching, supporting, and leading safety initiatives that protect our employees while driving operational excellence.


About the Role

The EHS Manager provides technical safety and health leadership through the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of site safety programs, systems, and objectives. This position partners closely with plant leadership, operations teams, and corporate safety resources to ensure compliance, reduce risk, and foster a proactive culture of safety accountability.

The role requires approximately 60% of time spent in plant operations providing direct support, coaching, auditing, and engagement with employees and leaders.

The EHS Manager interfaces with all levels of the Sycamore Plant organization and collaborates closely with:

  • Safety Managers across other Tate & Lyle locations

What You'll Do

Safety Leadership & Culture

  • Champion and lead the site's overall safety strategy and management system.
  • Develop and execute programs that deliver year-over-year reductions in injury and incident rates.
  • Drive employee engagement and accountability in safety programs at all organizational levels.
  • Partner with site leadership and corporate EHS teams to strengthen and sustain a proactive safety culture.
  • Promote behavioral safety principles and continuous improvement initiatives.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA standards and environmental regulations.
  • Lead and support programs including:
    • Hearing Conservation
    • Industrial Hygiene
    • Hazard Communication
    • Confined Space Entry
    • Lockout/Tagout
    • Contractor Safety
    • Hot Work Permitting
    • Emergency Preparedness
    • Safety Training and Certification Programs

Incident Management & Risk Reduction

  • Lead incident investigations and root cause analyses.
  • Develop and monitor corrective and preventive action plans.
  • Analyze trends and safety metrics to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement risk mitigation strategies.
  • Manage OSHA recordkeeping and reporting requirements, including OSHA 300 logs.

Workers' Compensation & Case Management

  • Manage workers' compensation claims and coordinate with medical providers and insurance partners.
  • Support return-to-work and transitional duty programs.
  • Track injury cases and ensure timely reporting and documentation.

Auditing & Management Systems

  • Lead and coordinate third-party ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 audits.
  • Conduct internal safety audits, inspections, and compliance reviews.
  • Ensure corrective actions are effectively implemented and sustained.
  • Maintain EHS documentation, records, and reporting systems.

Coaching & Leadership Development

  • Coach and support managers, supervisors, and employees in developing effective safety practices.
  • Deliver safety training and educational programs.
  • Facilitate safety committees and site-wide safety teams.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership on EHS-related matters.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED required; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Minimum 5 years of EHS experience in manufacturing, industrial, food production, chemical, or similar environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety management systems.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Experience leading compliance audits and corrective action programs.
  • Strong understanding of workers' compensation processes and case management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certifications such as:
    • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
    • Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
    • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
    • Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST)
  • Experience with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems.
  • Experience in food manufacturing or highly regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Experience implementing behavior-based safety programs.

Physical & Work Environment

This role operates in both office and manufacturing environments. The position requires:

  • Regular walking throughout the manufacturing facility.
  • Frequent climbing of stairs and access to elevated work areas.
  • Ability to wear required PPE in production environments.
  • Exposure to manufacturing equipment, ingredients, noise, and varying environmental conditions.
  • Approximately 60% of time spent on the production floor supporting operations.


Tate & Lyle complies with all local/state regulations requiring salary range transparency.

When determining final compensation, we take into consideration: skillset, job scope, knowledge, prior experience, cost of living, market data, budget availability, and other factors as permitted by law.


The pay range for this position is $92,300.00 - $123,100.00 - $153,900.00 USD Annual and will be determined based on the candidate's experience, qualifications, and overall skill set.
