Under general supervision and in alignment with established policies and professional guidelines, the Patient Safety Manager reports to the Director of Patient Safety and is responsible for the daily operations and leadership of the patient safety team. This role focuses on fostering a culture of safety, developing strategic and operational plans for harm reduction, and overseeing serious safety event responses. The manager collaborates across departments, leads safety initiatives, ensures compliance with regulatory standards, and supports legal and risk management processes. The role also includes staff supervision, education, and performance evaluation, all in support of Tampa General Hospital’s mission and values.
Essential Functions:
- Oversee scheduling, task assignment, and performance evaluation of team members.
- Create proactive plans to reduce harm and improve patient outcomes.
- Manage investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action planning. Identify trends and collaborate with departments to address safety concerns.
- Deliver findings and recommendations to departmental and executive leadership.
- Conduct medical record reviews and assist with interrogatories and production requests.
- Lead training sessions for new hires and ongoing departmental education.
- Maintain adherence to patient safety standards and accreditation requirements.
- Promote transparency, learning, and continuous improvement across the organization.
- Work with clinical and administrative teams to integrate safety into all aspects of care delivery.
- Bachelor's Degree in Health Administration, Business Administration, and/or other related field.
- Three (3) years progressive experience, with sustained results, in a position dedicated to Patient Safety.
- Previous leadership experience strongly preferred.
- Deep understanding of patient safety principles, methodologies (e.g., RCA, FMEA), and regulatory requirements.
- Proven ability to lead, motivate, and evaluate a multidisciplinary team, including hiring and scheduling responsibilities.
- Skilled in analyzing incident reports, identifying trends, and developing proactive safety strategies.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for presenting findings and collaborating with stakeholders at all levels.
- Experience in claims review, litigation support, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Ability to develop and deliver educational content for orientations, in-services, and safety programs.
