Salary: Minimum $12.00 - Maximum $15.00

Type: Part-Time Seasonal – Non-Exempt

Schedule: Up to 15 hours per week

Reports to: Sr. Program Director

Department Overview

In partnership with the Beaufort County School District, the Afterschool Counselor provides fun, safe, and engaging after-school programs for students (Pre-K & up). During the program, counselors support children with homework assistance in math and literacy, enrichment activities including STEM, and age-appropriate guidance that promotes healthy living strategies and overall well-being.

What You’ll Do

  •  Provide a welcoming and professional front desk experience for children, parents/guardians, staff, and visitors, including answering questions and communicating program information.
  • Manage participant check-in and check-out, attendance records, authorized pick-up procedures, and other required program documentation while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Support the supervision of elementary-age children and assist staff in maintaining a safe, structured, inclusive, and engaging after-school environment.
  • Follow all YMCA policies, program standards, and procedures related to health and safety, emergency response, behavior management, medical needs, professional boundaries, and youth supervision.
  • Attend required trainings, including abuse prevention and youth safety training; promptly report suspicious or inappropriate behavior, policy violations, and safety concerns, and comply with all mandated abuse reporting requirements.


What We’re Looking For

  •  High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree or enrollment in an elementary education, early childhood education, or related program is preferred.
  • Previous front desk, receptionist, administrative, or customer service experience is required.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with children, families, and staff.
