About the Role
The Senior Training Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, coordinating, and continuously improving employee training and workforce development programs, with a strong focus on manufacturing workforce readiness.
This position partners with Human Resources, Manufacturing, Quality, EHS, Warehouse, PMC, Facilities & Maintenance, Engineering, and other departments to identify skill gaps, establish training requirements, develop standardized programs, and ensure employees have the competencies needed to perform safely and effectively.
The role also supports training matrices, new-hire learning pathways, competency assessments, qualification programs, Learning Management System (LMS) administration, Train-the-Trainer programs, and training effectiveness.
What You’ll Do
Training Program Development
- Develop, implement, and improve employee training programs.
- Conduct training needs assessments and skills-gap analyses.
- Translate SOPs, work instructions, policies, and technical processes into effective training programs.
- Develop training plans aligned with organizational and operational priorities.
- Establish standardized training methods, materials, and documentation requirements.
Manufacturing Training & Workforce Readiness
- Serve as a key training partner for manufacturing workforce development.
- Partner with Manufacturing, Quality, EHS, Warehouse, PMC, Engineering, Facilities & Maintenance, and other functions to establish training requirements.
- Develop and maintain position-based training matrices and structured learning pathways.
- Coordinate technical, equipment, process, safety, and quality training.
- Develop competency assessments and employee qualification processes.
- Monitor training readiness for new equipment, processes, production lines, and operational changes.
- Support cross-training and multi-skill development initiatives.
New-Hire Training & Onboarding
- Lead the training component of new-hire onboarding.
- Develop standardized learning pathways by department and position.
- Ensure required company, safety, quality, compliance, and departmental training is completed.
- Partner with managers to establish 30/60/90-day training expectations.
- Monitor new-hire training progress and competency milestones.
Train-the-Trainer & LMS Administration
- Develop and administer the company’s Train-the-Trainer program.
- Train and coach supervisors, leads, technical experts, and designated trainers.
- Develop facilitator guides, lesson plans, assessments, and training materials.
- Serve as a senior administrator for the company’s Learning Management System (LMS).
- Maintain training assignments, employee training records, certifications, qualifications, and completion requirements.
- Monitor overdue training and generate compliance and effectiveness reports.
Compliance & Training Effectiveness
- Partner with HR, EHS, Quality, and operational leadership to coordinate required training.
- Ensure safety, quality, policy, compliance, and other required training is appropriately documented.
- Maintain training records to support internal and external audits.
- Measure training effectiveness through assessments, competency evaluations, feedback, and operational results.
- Analyze training data and recommend improvements when training does not produce expected results.
Leadership & Employee Development
- Support supervisor, manager, and employee development programs.
- Coordinate training related to leadership, communication, performance management, coaching, and accountability.
- Support career development, succession planning, and internal employee development initiatives.
- Research and recommend external training programs, certifications, and professional-development opportunities.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to Training Specialists, departmental trainers, supervisors, leads, and subject-matter experts.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Training & Development, Organizational Development, Education, Business Administration, Industrial Technology, or a related field; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
- 4–6 years of progressive experience in training, learning and development, employee development, manufacturing training, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience developing and facilitating employee training programs.
- Experience conducting training needs assessments and skills-gap analyses.
- Experience developing curricula, training materials, assessments, and competency evaluations.
- Experience administering or supporting a Learning Management System.
- Strong experience maintaining training records and reporting training metrics.
- Strong Microsoft Office/Microsoft 365 skills, including PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Teams.
- Strong facilitation, communication, organizational, and project-management skills.
- Ability to translate technical processes into clear and understandable training content.
Preferred Qualifications
- Training experience within a manufacturing, industrial, energy, engineering, or technical environment.
- Experience developing manufacturing skills matrices and employee qualification programs.
- Experience supporting production startup, manufacturing expansion, or significant workforce growth.
- Experience establishing Train-the-Trainer programs.
- Experience with OSHA-related, safety, quality, or regulated training requirements.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement, or standardized-work methodologies.
- ATD APTD/CPTD, SHRM, instructional-design, Lean, or related professional certification.
Additional Information
- Regular onsite attendance is required.
- Ability to work in both office and manufacturing environments.
- Ability to walk throughout production, warehouse, and operational areas.
- Ability to stand for extended periods while facilitating training.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment in designated areas.
- Ability to occasionally adjust work hours to support training across multiple production shifts.
- Occasional travel may be required.
