Job Summary:Â
The Aptiv Connection Systems team has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to join the North America Product Engineering Team.  The successful candidate will be a part of the Consumer Connectivity product portfolio.  The Mechanical Engineer will design, develop and validate the mechanical aspects of electronic products that integrate technologies such as USB-PD, USB hub, HDMI, Qi wireless charging, NFC, LED lighting, and GSM.  The candidate will provide innovative solutions and work with cross-functional teams to meet customer-driven, automotive industry specifications.Â

Your Role:Â
Work directly with automotive OEMs and other Tier 1 suppliers to design products that meet customer functional and mechanical requirementsÂ
Develop product drawings and oversee and/or create MCAD modelsÂ
Create change documentation for changesÂ
Use MCAD programs for developing new componentsÂ
Complete peer reviews of designs and design change activitiesÂ
Work with supply chain management to provide cost analysis of Bill of Material (BoM) and component cost tradeoffsÂ
Use analytical methods to perform simulations to verify operating boundaries and conditions for Worst Case AnalysisÂ
Conduct detailed benchmarking, competitive and cost-tradeoff analysis for area of responsibilityÂ
Perform simulations, worst case circuit tolerance analysis, FMEAs, fault tree analysis and similar design disciplinesÂ
Perform bench level testing and prototypingÂ
Complete checklists as necessary for following the product development process flowÂ
Work with validation team to assist in developing proper equipment and processes for Design Validation (DV) and Product Validation (PV) of productÂ
Mentor other department Mechanical Engineers in proper practices, industry standards and best practicesÂ
Ensure compliance with customer specific requirementsÂ
Create and conduct technical presentations to explain and sell new product designsÂ
Support the cross-functional team including software engineering, electrical engineering, systems engineering, ECAD, MCAD, manufacturing, and SCMÂ

Your Required Background (i.e., Must Haves):Â
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline; or a combination of Associates degree in a related discipline and 20+ years relevant mechanical design experienceÂ
5+ years relevant mechanical design experience and can demonstrate abilitiesÂ
Familiarity with product development process including: component testing / PPAP, functional dimensioning, geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T), dimensional stack-up including statistical applications, design failure mode and effects analysis (DFMEA)Â
Previous experience with using MCAD software to develop multi-component mechanical designsÂ
Demonstrated knowledge of proper design methods to meet automotive thermal, environmental, structural, and appearance requirementsÂ
Previous experience with design for manufacturing (DFM) processÂ
Previous experience designing injection molded plastic componentsÂ
Previous experience designing machined, cast, and stamped metal componentsÂ
Previous experience with tolerance stack-up analysisÂ
Ability and willingness to travel as requiredÂ
Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Project, Excel, Outlook, Teams, Visio, etc.)Â
Ability to work effectively with people at all levels in an organizationÂ
Strong results-orientation and execution characteristicsÂ
Excellent oral and written communication skills with a strong ability to work with a team.Â
Ability to effectively organize, prioritize and accomplish multiple conflicting tasks, make intelligent, timely decisions and solve problems independentlyÂ

Your Preferred Background (i.e., Nice to Haves):Â
Previous experience with SolidWorks and Siemens NX MCAD softwareÂ
Previous experience designing plastic and for 3D printing and other rapid prototyping technologiesÂ
Previous experience designing, simulating, and testing LED lighting to customer requirements including light pipes and diffusersÂ
Previous experience designing, simulating, and testing active and passive heat dissipation technologies integrated within a productÂ
Previous experience in engineering components including inductive wireless chargers and magnetsÂ
Previous experience with electrical contact systems and plating requirementsÂ
Strong presence, poise and persuasiveness to establish a high level of credibility quicklyÂ
